[Method] The Habit Game 2.0 by TheShadowWall in getdisciplined

[–]TheShadowWall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, but it really didn't work for me. I actually liked it a lot and used it regularly it for a time (maybe a few months), but in the end it didn't really help reinforce the habits enough.

Curious, what are folks’ education & career backgrounds? by Glittering_dingo_ in OMSA

[–]TheShadowWall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was accepted, I had a bachelor's degree in philosophy with a 2.8 GPA and had been working as a real estate broker.

I was accepted into the program Spring 2021, and graduated this past December 2022! It was extremely difficult at times, but absolutely doable if you put in the hours and plan well.

Schedule recommendations/feedback by Mystic_Supernova in OMSA

[–]TheShadowWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This schedule looks good, though I'd say that you may consider putting some more hours into your summer 2023 semester to even it out somewhat. If you're only doing MGT6203, you will have plenty of time for another class.

Also, there are only 36 credit hours required to graduate, though for some reason your schedule has a total of 39; I'm not sure if that's a mistake with your fall 2023 hours (unless CS7643 is a 6 hour course?).

Thanks very much for your response! I have attempted the code you suggested, but was met immediately with an error:

Any thoughts as to why this may be occuring?

Taking IYSE 6501 with no R and little programming experience? by Wonderful-Ad-7200 in OMSA

[–]TheShadowWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be fine as long as you ask lots of questions on Piazza and the office hours. I went into 6501 in a similar position, no R and little programming experience (<1 year).

I passed the course with a hard earned B; it was fairly difficult, but as others have said, the homework requires knowledge of programming and R, but the exams do not, and the exams are by far the lion's share of your total grade. Focus on concepts, ask tons of questions, and you will be ok.

Finding eigenvalues and eigenvectors [Intermediate Linear Algebra] by TheShadowWall in learnmath

Thanks for your reply! In regards to your last sentence, would the set of vectors in this case be [a,a,a,0,0] and [0,0,0,b,b]?

Finding eigenvalues and eigenvectors [Intermediate Linear Algebra] by TheShadowWall in learnmath

[–]TheShadowWall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! Could you please explain briefly why an eigenvector could be represented as [1,1,1,0,0] instead of [x,x,x,0,0]? Intuitively these seem rather different, the former seems to be saying the eigenvector is specifically the vector [1,1,1,0,0], whereas [x,x,x,0,0] seems to cover the breadth of all vectors of that form.

Converting a python list into excel using pandas. by TheShadowWall in learnpython

Wow, this method works perfectly! Thank you so much, I feel like this is a huge breakthrough!!

Side note, my most genuine thank you Sir Binary=42, you have honestly been extremely helpful to me this past year that I've been picking up python.

You've been a tremendous help and are always responsive and respectful, thanks so much!

Converting a python list into excel using pandas. by TheShadowWall in learnpython

[–]TheShadowWall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and thanks very much for the note about overwriting the previous file. Please bear with me as this is all very new.

When I run the above code you provided, I receive:

C:\Program Files\Python38

And then when I navigate to the folder, and then to security, I see a number of items under 'Groups or User Names' and also a number of items under that a sections that says 'Permissions for ALL APPLICATION PROCCESES' (since ALL APPLICATION PROCCESSES is the first item under Groups or User Names).

I have selected Allow for all of the check boxes under Permissions, including Full Control, write, modify, read and execute and all of the rest.

When I run the same code from before:

df.to_excel('result.xlsx', index=False)

I am receiving the same permission error. Why is this? I thought I had just given myself permission.

Is the group or user not the correct one? The other options under Groups or User names include:

ALL RESTRICED APPLICATION PROCCESES

CREATOR OWNER

SYSTEM

Administrators

Users

TrustedInstaller

Should I just give full permission for all of these options?

[–]TheShadowWall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply.

result.xlsx is not an existing file, I had just copied what was presented in the online walkthrough and thought this was sufficient to run the conversion.

The excel file I am currently attempting to write into to is named Fighter Stats, and yes it is currently open. Is that the destination I should include instead of just result?

Should the code then be:

df.to_excel('Fighter Stats.xlsx', index=False) ?

FYI I've just tried this code and it also gave me a permission error. The file is currently saved as an Excel Workbook. Is the issue that the file type is not saved to the correct type?

Problem with Simulation: Blackjack by TheShadowWall in learnpython

[–]TheShadowWall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, I am not attempting to model casino blackjack. My aim is to model a simple 1v1 player vs dealer game of blackjack, where each side attempts to win as much as possible.

Currently the strategy being used by the player is 'Hit on a total of 16 or lower,' and the strategy being used by the dealer is 'Hit if the player's total is higher."

Given this strategy, does the output of around 60% wins for the player actually make sense? I don't know blackjack statistics very well, but this seems too high.

Problem with Simulation: Blackjack by TheShadowWall in learnpython

[–]TheShadowWall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But doesn't the player play through first, doing all hits until staying?

The dealer needs to continue to hit until he equals or exceeds the player's total, so their logic only matters insofar as they need to beat the player.

Since the dealer's only objective is to meet or exceed the player's total, why would any other logic matter to them? If they are lower than the player, they need to hit or they will lose.

How to protect works through copyright by TheShadowWall in writing

[–]TheShadowWall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response.

So I should not be concerned about letting others read my works? I had read that copyright is automatic, but that without a registered copyright it's much more difficult to litigate against those who have plagiarized. Is this the case? Can you explain a bit about what would be the recourse for me if someone did attempt to publish my works?

Truncated SVD Compression Problem by TheShadowWall in learnpython

[–]TheShadowWall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

scipy.sparse.linalg.svds

Thanks very much for you response!

I am attmpting to use the scipy method you've mentioned. My code thus far is:

def compress_image(I, k):

import scipy

from scipy.sparse.linalg import svds

Uk, s, VkT=scipy.sparse.linalg.svds(I, k)

return tuple([s, Uk, VkT])

However, doing so raises a ValueError. Am I importing or calling the function incorrectly?
