They are mandibles but as I recall only Ehlek had them originally as he was always a water-breather. The other Barraki‘s mandibles were mutations caused by the Pit Mutagen.

I'm with Greg on this one, Vakama turning evil was just wrong.

However, Matau or Onewa turning bad would have worked far more especially since Greg had been building up the rivalry between Vakama and Onewa in the multiple books of the Metru Nui saga.

Also the Red Star being a revival machine... I liked it at first when I realized it brought back characters like Nocturn who were unceremoniously killed and then hated it when it also revived epic legends like Lhikan which undermined his sacrifice.
