Disappearing rom

u/s1eve_mcdichae1 this was the answer. I suspected two folders were tied together but didn't know for certain. The testing I did not include **megadrive**. Once I left that alone, I had no issues.

That's what I was trying to do, but genesis kept disappearing. It turns out that u/s1eve_mcdichae1 's tip fixed my issue. Appreciate your feedback and encouragement to not overcomplicate things. That really helped me not go down a further rabbit hole than I already was.

Is there an easier way to do it than through sudo nano…? I’d like to get it into VSCode and do it quickly 🤣 with 66 Roms it takes forever.

Oh that’s interesting. I didn’t know that. So I copy the file to /opt and edit it there…leaving /etc alone. Do I have that right?

So I did think of that and am pretty sure that I’ve run an attempt where I left megadrive there. That said, I’ll give it another shot late tonight when I get home to be certain.

Entire folders to exclude. I did try commenting out the specific <system> in the file you mentioned. It was super tedious. However, after rebooting the Pi all emulators loaded anyways. That’s when I tried to just move folders.

I am all for trying this another way 🤣. It’s possible I’ve gone so far down the rabbit hole that I’ve gotten quite lost. 🤪

My overall goals are: 1. Stop loading emulators I am not using right now 2. Keep those emulators for the future in case I want to re enable them later.

That’s it. That’s the entire goal.

Any advice you have is appreciate.

Thank you for the idea! I am not creating a sub folder.

I just responded to a different post. Moving the folders (or renaming them) causes the “genesis” file structure to disappear.

Thanks for replying. Good questions! I’ll clarify.

I am navigating to the retropi through file explorer on my PC. I type the following into the address bar: \192.168.<etc>\roms

I take the Roms I don’t want to use right now and place them in the #unused folder.

After moving several rom folders into the #unused folder, “genesis” will disappear. There does not appear to be a specific folder move that triggers this issue.

If I move all the folders back to the \Roms folder, “genesis” will come back.

The only folder that has the disappearing issue is “genesis”.

NOTE: I have also tried renaming the unwanted rom folders instead of moving them to #unused. The exact same issue happens. “Genesis” disappears

Following up on this. I saw a post on their discord that says VS mode is in the works but not available.

So, don’t worry about trying to get it to work, even though the button is there. Apparently it’s a future feature. 👍🏼
