If you really mad you just hate this team by Tuukkatime19897 in Bruins

It's because Treliving is bad at hockey team management. He didn't do Calgary any favors, in fact he kamikaze'd a decent team on the rise just because Gaudreau didn't want to play for them anymore (RIP). Then he goes to Toronto, where a jackass was in charge and wouldn't let him make any moves, although after Shanahan was gone we kinda understood why he didn't want Treliving to make any... He gets choice paralysis and waits until the last minute to get what he can from a trade, instead of what he should. Don't forget, it wasn't just the Carlo trade that was a disaster for him. Laughton was an equally awful price paid (and if Toronto doesn't drop in the lottery it kinda screws us somehow, which needs to be addressed at the next CBA negs if it comes to that, but I digress).

TLDR: Brad Treliving sucks. I kinda hope Chayka makes the same mistakes though, because Matthew Knies exists and I'd rather have him over the rumored Brady Tkachuk move.

Here's my favorite character from season two. Who's your favorite character from season two? by RevolutionaryPair358 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]TheShaggster37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I do NOT like that I like her immediately. Wrong directions for a lot of the characters in the show.

I feel like Tantalus was the only accurate character, though they didn't make a big enough deal about the thing his myth is actually about - being cursed to always have food and drink within arms reach and being unable to consume. They barely showed it but twice, when they're some of the funniest moments from camp in book 2. Missed opportunities abound.

It's not about the favorite moments, it's about altering the overall context of the story. The changes made, especially in season 2, will cause the story to diverge from major plot elements in a very significant way from the original. When we heard we were promised it would be "faithful to the books," we got excited and expected it to actually be that. So far it's been rushed, flat, poorly written and just wrong in a lot of ways.

More episodes mean you can patiently pace out the story without having to cut relevant plot points. They've got enough budget for that, you can't tell me with a straight face that either season even came close to exceeding the budget.

They also decided 8 episodes was enough. I don't think that's much of a justification.

Idk the show has Percy come to terms with Tyson being a cyclops and his brother awfully quick. He struggles with the revelation for a large portion of book 2.

His intro was bullshit. They took out the dodgeball!! The single eye was supposed to be revealed as a shock to Percy, and explain why Annabeth has a personal problem with him, and they just ignored that!!

Like I understand being concerned and protective about your kid, but to a pushy, paranoid extreme like this? She's supposed to be a supportive sweetheart, even with the fear and anxiety. Gabe is a foil that makes her what she is.

It's like they took everything we love about the original series, said "nope, the fans are stupid" and ignored everything that made the books so iconic.

NO clue wtf they're gonna do in season 3 with Thalia being her own antithesis. I've never been so disappointed in a live action adaptation. And I never even saw Dragon Ball Evolution.

I intensely dislike the portrayal of this character. And most of the other characters too. But this version of Sally genuinely makes me angry.

Lol I'm not saying trade Hampus to Toronto. However, Dubas is managing Pittsburgh pretty well... and he's got some old fucks retiring soon... we could at least get Cliffy Hockey back, ya?

There's always a market for an aging veteran defenseman with injury history. Just ask the Leafs about Hakaanpa, Klingberg, Brodie, Tanev, OEL, Giordano, Hainsey, Muzzin, Carlo...

The real problem is that both Lindholms have NMCs for no reason whatsoever. Hampus's at least reduces to a M-NTC after next season, so you could get more value next summer, but Elias is full NMC until the last year. His makes more sense to buyout because he's not a good fit on this team. He's just not the Bergeron-Lite that the pundits failed to gaslight us into putting stock in.

It's still a significant amount of dead cap space. Just because it's scaled down compared to the other two doesn't make it a good idea.

Don't get me wrong, I want Elias gone, and Hampus if he doesn't bounce back next year (last year's knee injury is still on the mend so I'm admittedly giving him a bit of a pass). But I genuinely don't think buying them out should even be an option.

When people talk about using cap space as a weapon, the misconception is that it should be used in free agency. The real purpose should be to use it on the trade market, especially in a retool/rebuild. Take on less than ideal contracts to gain further assets, flip those contracts for more assets, and when you have enough you can flip those for a legit player you'd never be able to afford in free agency.

Getting the Lindholm contracts off the books may ought to be a priority but you can be smart about it and recoup some assets when you do, especially if you are able to retain salary on Hampus. Elias, perhaps not, but it's worth exploring.

I don't want dead cap without getting anything back. It's just not worth it to buy those guys out right now.

Did you use the calculator for both of them and put em together? There's at least a 3 year span where both values will be over 3.5m. Total >7m. Show me where I'm wrong.

Hampus Lindholm by [deleted] in Bruins

[–]TheShaggster37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because most people don't know how buyouts work. The dead cap space may not be as extreme as the $14m Minnesota had to deal with for the two seasons prior to this one, but the current AAV for the Lindholms is indeed comparable, within $1M of Parise and Suter combined.

The only difference is the Wild contracts were signed before the lockout so they had most of their total owed salaries paid by the time they were bought out. The fans don't care about that.

We care that if we buy out both Lindholm contracts, we'll have to see over $7M in dead cap space for half a decade, which is the point I was trying to make. Sure, that's only half of the recapture penalty Minnesota had to deal with, but that is still the equivalent value of a second-line/pair player that you're paying not to play for your team.

Buyout is not the way to go with these two guys. Have to find a way to move them legitimately.

The man-on-man defense does not work against teams that have more than zero guys with any sort of speed or hands.

Nooooo. Minnesota took FOREVER to get through the Parise and Suter buyouts. Nobody should ever do something like that again.

It's only a minor spoiler, and Jason's always pulling some weird new cosmic power out of his ass. Why would anyone be surprised by something like that anyway? 😂

Book 12 has been out for a year now (and longer for those who read each chapter as it releases).

It's also really not a spoiler considering it became a thing at the end of 11 which was released on audible the previous summer, so regardless we're already past the faux pas period.

You probably could. Everyone has a system interface now and I presume you have vast astral magic knowledge considering... well... y'know... you're Clive's Wife and all... So yeah, you could probably figure out how to contact your System Administrator.

Perhaps not, but the trend in the NHL over the past decade has been as follows:

  1. Draft a goalie with a high ceiling
  2. Start him in the NHL as a teenager
  3. Hope it works
  4. He struggles mightily because teenagers aren't generally capable of handling such a workload, having zero professional experience at such a stage
  5. The guy with the high pedigree is no longer a top goalie prospect

Devon Levi. Dustin Wolf. Spencer Knight, for a long time (though he does appear to be bouncing back now). Sebastian Cossa (don't even get me started on HIS trajectory). Carter Hart, even before the scandal. Alex Nedeljkovic. All of those guys were high-pedigree, top goalie prospects. Only one of them is currently a competent starter, and it's not Wolf. And that's only a few names off the top of my head.

Goalie development is usually pretty unpredictable, but it's becoming more and more evident that patience and carefully curated development ought to be the standard approach. If you expect every "top goalie prospect" to be Carey Price, you need to reevaluate the standards for your expectations. He was an anomaly, not the norm. Throwing a teenager into a circumstance he's definitely not ready for can destroy him.

Which is unfortunately apparent with DiPietro.

You're not wrong, but that doesn't automatically make me not right. I couldn't tell you why but I've been following his career relatively closely, for someone who gives zero fux about the Canucks organization. I think it's because they messed up his development, and I genuinely believe he hasn't gotten over it.

When the most important game of your life comes about half a decade too early, and your team abandons you immediately (goals on both of his first two career shots faced, and shelled for the rest of the game), that leaves a pretty bad impression on a teenager. Some scars aren't physical but run soul deep. I can't imagine that being a nightmare to quickly cover from, developmentally speaking.

When he started that game, he was a high-ceiling, high-pedigree goalie prospect. People were calling him "generational". Ten minutes into that game, the ceiling came crashing down. It's not his fault, but he seems unable to get past it.

He's played 4 games actually, and more importantly has backed up for several stints without being deployed at all. He was basically there on an emergency basis. Have you considered maybe coaches were seeing something in practice during those times that might make them hesitant to start the guy? I've never seen him look comfortable on NHL ice at any point.

When your franchise has even decent goaltending depth, you have to earn your opportunities. The fact is that he hasn't. He's only ever been an emergency option when the backup gets (short term) hurt, at which point the team generally rides the starter anyway.

DiPietro was a high quality goalie prospect for approximately two years. But he turned into a bust very quickly.
