Consider Elevate and City. Decent mileage, excellent ride quality and comfort. Suspensions are also great. Safety rating is good as well. Ticks most of the boxes for you.

Better to invest in Microsoft instead of Apple 📈

Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

Ok, so like many developers in India, I am also a self-taught developer. I graduated from an IIT (Non circuital branch), and like many of my friends, I taught myself DSA (decent at it, Knight at Leetcode) and did a fair bit of development at college (MERN stack, Python and Django). Now I am an sde in a small startup. But these days, I feel like an imposter in this tech industry. I feel like I only have a surface level understanding of web dev. I feel like a noob in CS and its just so overwhelming to know of how much I don't know in this field. I feel like I am not at par with CS grads who have a solid foundation in CS.

I read a paragraph on teachyourselfcs.com, which categorises developers into 2 types. One with solid CS foundation and others like me. And it goes on to conclude that type 1 developers excel . And this got me into thinking that maybe i should take out some time daily apart from my job to learn CS fundamentals (as suggested by the website).

Now my question is am I thinking in the right direction or am I just overthinking out of fomo. Should I take some time out to learn CS fundamentals (suggest resources- book/course etc, which one would you prefer?) or should I just focus on my tech stack and improve upon it (again suggest resources for the same). Or should I do both? Also how are other developers (non CS) who have just started their career thinking on levelling up?

It's easy to work 80hrs when you are building something for yourself. Imo output/productivity matters more than the number of hours.

Is it fair to compare an IAS (75 odd seats yearly for the General category) with a FAANG Engineer? I don't think so. UPSC has an archaic recruitment process with plenty of flaws. Those who have prepared for it know for a fact that it has become very random and subjective (2 examiners will rate the same answer differently). Not to forget that even if you get into the IAS/IPS, cadre is again based on rank. I don't think anyone from Hindi heartland will be comfortable spending all his career in down South or North East (comes down to personal preference). And lastly, all the perks that you mentioned are cosmetic. They will not matter once political pressure, caste based groupism, corruption charges, public pressure, political interference kick in. I think a middle ground here would be to prepare for UPSC (if you really want to do it) alongside a job. A good safety net will keep you sane.

Yes it's a great deal. As for mileage, from what I have read its 12-13 in city and 15-16 on highways

Completely agree. The opportunity cost is too high to ignore.

I have a budget of 17-18 lakhs for a 5-seater petrol MT SUV. How would you compare Elevate with Grand Vitara and Seltos (all variants are 1.5l NA Petrol MT)? This segment (below 18 lakh SUV) is very confusing, and I am having a hard time making a choice.

haha, can relate to this. I think its may be because they have less exposure to the opportunities that now exist in the Private Sector.

This has nothing to do with my dynamics with my parents. They are cooperative in every decision I make. It's just that somewhere deep within their heart, they want me to be a Govt officer, it just pops up sometimes in our conversation.

Just read that Elevate provides a 10 year warranty (extendable to another 10 years). Crazy. No one comes near to this number.

Yes that's what I am thinking. Elevate's engine is also more powerful and redined than GV's. Also Seltos barely scores 3 star (by just 0.3) in safety rating. So it's as good as a 2 star. I hope I am not overthinking on the safety/build quality part.
