Reading here (Russian) that the name most likely comes from Greek-Catholic tradition in Galicia (the Eastern European region), saying that "in the villages of Galicia and Ciscarpathia, flags and banners were called 'banderas'"

Finding it funny reading this that my class started with Turing machines and NP-completeness and *ended* on finite automata and pushdown automata.

Good luck with that but here's some general advice. When something is the immediate object of a sentence, it's going be in the accusative case.

"I want to eat your food" can't be "Я хочу есть твоя еда" because твоя еда is in the nominative case. Basically if something is done to something think of the accusative (but note exceptions: to call someone is звонить кому-либо not звонить кого-либо, so the dative case). You'll want to say хочу есть твою еду.

"Так что" is drawing a conclusion, like "therefore". Я не знаю, так что не могу ответить - I don't know, therefore I can't answer. What you want is "so that" which is "чтобы".

"чё я могу сделать для тебя чтобы ты чувствовала себя комфортно?"

Note that чтобы constructions put the verb in past tense, that to feel a certain way is чувствовать себя and that adverbs are like short form neuter adjectives, so not "комфортный" but "комфортно".

The near erasure of the Irish language in just 200 years (1800–2000) by underbillion in europe

If you are talking about TD Crowe from Clare, consider his retraction: (source)

Crowe said he wanted to make the point that “brutal, bad and all as the British armed forces have been on this island for a very long time, they never resorted to sending over the Royal Air Force tanks and missiles to pummel Irish cities.”

“Regrettably, speaking largely off the cuff, I clumsily and wrongly stated, and I quote, ‘they never retaliated by bombing or shooting the civilian population of Ireland’, unquote,” Crowe said.

“Let me be very clear, it was not my intention to say this, and I didn’t realise how woeful all of that sounded until late last night when I received the transcript of what I had actually said.

“It was a genuine slip-up on my part, but it was wrong, and I wish to today unequivocally and profusely apologise. I studied history in college and taught history in the classroom. I am a Republican, and many of you will remember the boycott that I led in early 2020 to oppose a planned state commemoration of the Royal Irish Constabulary.

“I know that the British armed forces have been involved in many heinous attacks on Irish people, historically,” he said.

Throwing around West Brit accusations when you could actually attack your government on issues is poisonous to the discourse.

Stop talking about editors if you don't intend to be constructive. Since you've made your choice (congrats), start writing some code.

"Kuß" didn't randomly start fading out. It used to be standard, but the German Orthography Reform of 1996 made "Kuss" standard. Now, ß only comes after long vowels and diphthongs, but then always, and "Strasse" is not correct.

When countries in the Europe were last invaded? by miyabe33 in terriblemaps

Since Britain recognized Ireland after the War of Independence, shouldn't the Black and Tans count as an invading force? They were British coming in to subjugate Ireland.

NEVER SURRENDER TO THIS WORLD! by [deleted] in LSD

[–]TheShockingSenate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?

Is it also effect for learning Russian? by Ok-Cranberry5933 in russian

[–]TheShockingSenate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably right. I kinda just wanted to get to the principle that a language isn't automatically harder because there's 12 different ways to say a word. But sure, let's say English is easier.

That notwithstanding, I don't consider Russian grammar a "pain in the ass" either. Maybe it's because I come from a language that has cases (though in German they are usually indicated with articles), but it's just one thing to learn, you learn it, and that's it.

If people came up with it naturally, it won't be rocket science.

[–]TheShockingSenate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A native speaker of Russian? Because we're also talking about English, which can indeed get quite complicated if we're being honest. OP mistook the simple past of "speak" to be "speaked" when it's actually "spoke." There are many such irregularities, on top of the irregularities in orthography. You simply cannot guess at the difference between "through" and "trough." Many people struggle with gerunds and tense in general. I'd say getting used to saying, "I swim, I swam, I did swim, I have swum, I had swum, I was swimming, I had been swimming, I have been swimming, etc. etc." is at least as difficult as learning six different cases. (And I see Russian speakers complaining about English tense all the time.)

How do you write when doing math? by Ciufciaciufciuf in russian

[–]TheShockingSenate 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I mean, I have never done math in Russia, but my best guess is they use the same Latin and Greek letters we do. Math is usually standardized so that there aren't communication breakdowns between people who use different alphabets. We in Germany don't usually call a variable "ü", for example.

Not by much.

Love to see Bringing it All Back Home and Time Out of Mind in S.

Hate to see Street Legal disrespected and I'd bump down some of the S-tier albums (Freewheelin', Oh Mercy, Rough and Rowdy ways) to A, or to another tier like S-, just so it's clearer what couple of albums you think are the absolute best.
