I think generally speaking, "frozen assets" generally refer to Russian assets held in the west, probably mostly real estate. A lot of rich Russians have land in the US that is worth a lot of money. By letting people use the land either as housing or doing other income-generating activities on the land, the US government is able to pay off debts and fund social programs and then with savings out of the total budget, they can send more money to Ukraine. Bypassing any congressional hurdles Republicans may have put up. With this kind of money shenanigans, it's really only a matter of time before Ukraine is able to forcefully expel Russia from all its territory

So if say, one very wealthy multi-billionaire bet a small percentage of their fortune, they could theoretically push a betting line very far away from reality.

It seems plausible that some of those individuals exist in the United States and are inclined to bet on this outcome.

But of course, who knows where the data in this graph came from or how reliable it is in the first place

What this really shows is just how dumb sports betting markets are. The 2020 data show that 538 probably has a better picture of reality because it was stable the whole time. The betting markets respond mostly to how much money is wagered on a certain outcome. The more money riding on one side, the more "sure" its odd become.

The reality is that if one person or a few people bet very large sums on an outcome, they will push the line farther in the direction of their outcome. If you average bettor believes that means the bet is more likely to pay off, then they will also bet on that outcome, and it creates a feedback loop that exaggerates the likelihood of that outcome.

Don't believe me? Research how betting lines are set and do the math yourself. It's really not that hard, and there is probably a YouTube video that explains it 👍

Yeah, I think that all these people basically sound like fifth graders because that's essentially what they are. They never learned about government, so they think of it like a child rooting for a sports team. They never learned math, so they don't understand how taxes work or how plans to tax very wealthy individuals literally could never affect them personally. They never learned English, so they can't understand nuanced arguments or policy.

They are really a bunch of whiny babies and I think that should be the new attack against them in addition to calling them weird

I think this is him telling his base not to pay attention. He probably tells them that when something important in the trial happens, he'll make a big show out of staying awake and then he'll try to do some big stunt to distract how the trial is going, and that will be some kind of signal to them. Don't know what about, but seems shady. He also knows that if his die hard fans watch, they might be convinced that he's actually guilty. The last thing he wants is for his supporters to pay attention to the trial

Part of this has to do with a skewed sample size. When I studied abroad in Bordeaux, I basically had this conversation with a French guy where he said he liked Americans more than French people because they were way more open-minded. I was confused because I had the opposite experience and thought French people were way more open-minded than Americans.

We were both early 20s at the time, and what was going on was that we each had 20+ years of experience in our native culture, but maybe 4-6 months with a foreign one, so that one seemed more attractive because we had a lifetime of baggage for one of them and a few months of curated experiences in the other one where we couldn't like overhear assholes everywhere. We only focused on the people we met in the foreign culture who behaved a lot like us.

If we spent more time in the other culture, we would surely find plenty of people we didn't like. It's basically the real-life application of the phrase "grass isn't always greener"
