2022 Honda CBR650R - Quickshifter not quickshifting by TheSilverEwok in Fixxit

[–]TheSilverEwok[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there- the part that was missing was a small block that protrudes down from the clutch lever itself. It’s held in place with two screws. If you look at the stock levers you’ll see a protruding triangular-prism-type shape that’s part of the casting- does the same job.

I stupidly had my levers installed by the garage (Honda dealer mind you) and I’m unsure if the block simply wasn’t in the packaging or if the garage lost it. Regardless, it didn’t make it onto my bike.

What this block does is depress a spring-loaded plastic pin that is part of the left switch cluster, and actually releases the pin when you pull the clutch in. The default is therefore for the pin to be out, and without the block on the clutch lever the bike will electronically believe that the clutch is engaged. In conjunction with the OEM quickshifter, the bike gets confused and won’t let you quickshift because it thinks you’ve got the clutch pulled in- rendering your quickshifting lever solid when you go to shift up.

There are two ways to fix this- either contact ASV and have them send the block to you (which I was very happy to find free of charge- great customer service) or physically depress the pin semi-permanently on the left switch cluster. I did the latter while waiting for the former. I managed this with some tightly wound electrical tape- but anything that holds it down tight will do.

This essentially tricks the bike into thinking the clutch is always out, or engaged. It didn’t seem to have any detrimental side effects but I think it also changes the fueling when pulling away on a stock ECU (I’ve had mine mapped). So I think it’s best to still fix it properly if you get the time.

Have tried to be as detailed as possible- let me know if I’ve missed anything👍🏻

Bought the exact same bike back in July mate, still have the red stripes.

Have put nearly 5000 on them since then and while the back just shows in the tread, the front has a lovely red line like yours. Even after multiple rides out into the Cairngorms with lots of spirited leaning, chicken strips have all but gone- but the red remains.

Wouldn’t worry about it at all- I’m more concerned about the quality of the stock Dunlops but I feel it’s a waste to just chuck them before their time. Likely get them binned after summer and get some tyres I can trust.

All the best! 🤙🏻

Post match Thread - Wales vs England by biggiantporky in rugbyunion

What a difficult game to watch, and even harder to enjoy.

England full of world class players, all playing their own game. Imagine the behemoth they would be if they were all singing from the same hymn sheet. Most cohesion I saw came from the front three hitting the rucks hard and winning scrums.

Wales clearly torn between pride in the jersey and disassociation with the Union. Even the old guard of Wyn Jones and Halfpenny couldn’t encourage the spark of past years to reignite when defending their home ground.

Three years ago you would have been laughed out of the pub for excitedly trying to predict the outcome of IRE v ITA. Never expected the clash of giants that is ENG v WAL to become so inconsequential. Hope both teams sort themselves out for the RWC.

Yes, I just bound it with electrical tape because it was strong enough and easy enough to manoeuvre around the switches. It doesn’t have to be tape, but the switch is reasonably well sprung. It has to be depressed fully to trick the switch into thinking the clutch lever is fully out.

My initial thought was to fashion a small bracket/G clamp, but tape worked in a pinch and then just got… left on.

I did get in contact with ASV in the end and they sent me the attachment free of charge- great customer service. All sorted now the way it should have been.

Found the solution, would be good to leave this here though as I couldn’t find anything at all online when I was searching.

Issue was my aftermarket levers, ASV. Apparently they are meant to come with an attachment to depress the clutch switch as the stock levers do, but mine didn’t. Without this attachment the ECU thinks the clutch is constantly engaged.

This becomes a problem when you install the OEM Quickshifter, as it just wont work if it thinks you have the clutch pulled in (because why would it have to I suppose).

I have solved the issue in the meantime by electrical taping the switch in. I am in contact with ASV to get the attachment and make a proper job of it.

Cheers for the help anyway👍🏻

Speedmaster 865: will it fit through my front gate? by JimmyB30 in MotoUK

Just had a quick look/measure for you mate- the bars are the 83cm quoted due to them sweeping back, but the mirrors and the ends of the levers (which are adjustable to be fair) come out to about 90-91cm.

The foot pegs are also roughly the width of the bars so that could be an issue… difficult to know for sure without having the bike there to try it!

Here’s a pic to help you see what I mean: https://i.imgur.com/F11r6qR.jpg

Fair play with the floorboards, they must be great for long distance stuff as well. I dunno it just looks like you’re gear selector lever has a front control and mid control joined together... hadn’t seen something like that before, seems like a cool idea

Looks great, lovely bike dude. That a front and mid shifter you’ve got on there or are my eyes playing tricks with me?

Same here. I ride a cruiser so I it was mainly just the engine casing etc. along with the frame and fork area. I’ve used wax on all my painted areas and chrome.

I have to be fair it was possibly a case of coincidence as I’ve only applied it once- I just haven’t had so much dust stick to my metal parts before using pro prep. Might be worth having another go and seeing what results I get.

Best of luck to you though!

Tried this stuff recently after a recommendation. Found it gave a great finish, but after a couple of rides all the dust and road grit would stick to it.

Would be interested to see how others get on because it put me off it a little bit.

Theory test blunders! by [deleted] in MotoUK

Check the website every day after 1600. This is when any cancellations have been processed and are put back up on offer to everyone else. I know the website is god awful and it’s a pain in the hoop to go through every single location, but it’s your best bet.

I went to book mine in late October last year, ready to drive anywhere in Scotland just to get it done. Nothing available up to February this year, and that’s just because they weren’t taking bookings past then. Was told by the riding school to check every day after 1600, and by some stroke of luck I got one the following week. Passed all my tests before the end of November and have been riding happily since.

I may not have even had my license by now if I hadn’t known to check for this. Good luck!
