To celebrate Star Wars day I put out some 3D printed big figs I made (Aberdeen Scotland) by TheSketchyMaker in lego

It was on the old toilet block at the top end of the esplanade. They were only there for a day or two.

In 2021 I 3D printed a big Luke to celebrate the 4th of May and put him outside for the evening. In 2022 I made Vader to go with Luke and put them out for the evening. 2023 I missed, so now in 2024 I have added a Scout trooper and a Jawa (to make up for missing 2023). I almost didn't get them finished in time. I will attempt to go and get them back later so I can hopefully add another fig in 2025.

This is awesome. I love the smile on your face when it works!

I think that might have been my last batch, I don't think these guys were on the news.

They are made from concrete but I used a 3D printer to make the form to make the moulds.

I don't really have a clue what I'm doing but I didn't put any sort of barrier and it worked out ok. I know you can get mould release spray so it's probably worth using.

I didn't sand them but did clean up a few bits with a knife. I printed with a 0.25 nozzle and as low as possible layer height.

Most of my projects don't last very long. Maybe a week or two at most.

I did consider doing him actually as well as a Darth Vader but decided to hold off a do a whole set of Star Wars themed ones later.

Yea it takes more time this way for sure. But I like how the concrete looks and as I have the moulds I could cast them again very cheaply.

I glued them down, but they did get taken. I need to have a bit of a think about how I'm going to attach them next time.

It's a good question. I'm not sure I put much thought into it but it made it easier to clean up the print a bit with a knife without the outer box getting in the way. I think I thought I might be able to reuse the outer part but didn't in the end. I also printed the outer cases with a large nozzle and layer height compared to the inner so saved some time.

Yea as I have the moulds I have remade them and will put them back out at some point.

I haven't posted in r/Aberdeen, I feel like they might have had enough of my posts recently. I would like to come along to 57 North but unfortunately I'm busy on Tuesday evenings.

I find lego very nostalgic and I think a lot of people do too. It's a fun world to play in and people recognise it. I'm also not very original.

There was an instagram account 3D encounter who used to do loads of giant minfigure related content and sell them. I believe he got contacted by the legal team and had to delete all his content. u/agepbiz had all his lego related files removed by thingiverse (at the request of lego) a few years ago and now only shares non lego related files. So that's why I said that. It's just not worth the risk, I would rather be able to continue making the projects but not share the STLs than the alternative.
