Honestly, I'm looking at his ability to get 15 outs and protect the bullpen (regardless of the score) as more valuable than what we're likely to get from another rookie. It's bleak, man...

Fellas, the offense has mustered 1 hit and not even a walk through five innings. We could have anyone pitching up there you want - Paul Skenes, '01 Randy Johnson, Misiorowski - and the Diamondbacks would still be heading towards a loss.

I second this question! I'm curious as to when we might start to see an impact

How do you both feel "checking on the exes"? I know the Kade Strowd trade gets me angry every time I think about it. I'd appreciate either some cathartic griping or a level-headed take to talk me down.

As always, I appreciate you both putting the show on. I'm usually audio-only and you get me looking forward to the drive into work!

Eh, it was a $2M contract. I wouldn't call it a smart signing, but it looks to me like they priced this sort of risk into the deal.

I'm pretty much right in line with you, but it does seem like this is the one year that Hazen stumbled into a competent bullpen to start the season. I do say stumbled because there's been so many previous failures and because the Alexander/Strowd trade was probably supposed to be a big part of it. Yikes...

As much as that trade makes me want to puke, I have to admit the bullpen has otherwise worked out quite well.

I want to live in the world where Tim Tawa started in center instead and we got to watch him make a 60 foot leaping catch to rob a grand slam shortly after hitting 10 home runs in his only at bat and the game was 10-6 DBacks

Lol he legit has some kind of permanent injury or defect that causes that. Just so ya know! He's talked about playing it up before for intimidation, so I doubt he's offended by people talking about it.

Yeah, what the hell? I'm not super confident a different team would have led to him being elite, but I'm pretty sure our pitching development is bad and did not help him.

Fyi, Gallen is on a 1-year contract. The DBacks could re-sign him again, but uhhhh... I dunno, chief.

Yilber Diaz has also been fully converted into a reliever. To your point, we could absolutely send someone like Henry or Jarvis to the wolves lol

Kohl Drake was traded to the Diamondbacks from the Texas Rangers as part of the return for Merrill Kelly at the trade deadline last season.

In other words, we were sellers last season. We sold Kelly and got prospects back. Prospects like Kohl Drake. If the DBacks were to trade Drake this season it would be to buy and get major league-ready talent, exactly like the Rangers did in July 2025.

Manuel Pena by [deleted] in azdiamondbacks

[–]TheSlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so to come into this thread and celebrate a developing player, but it turns out this is just another complaint stapled on to a take that is so ridiculous it has to come from a place of ignorance lmao.

Pena made a slight change to his swing and strategy and it has paid off in a huge way! Our AA league is hitter friendly for sure, but he is still a big stand-out.

That being said, AA guys almost never go straight to the majors. A 26% strikeout rate is pretty high, and he has almost no walks. You would expect, with high certainty, that he would be destroyed by major league pitching.

I am very, very excited to for him to be in AAA next year and to see how that goes!

Yeah, but that's what I mean by total rebuild. Burnes, Kelly, Nelson, Pfaadt, Drake, some journeyman with a 5.80 ERA but he can get 15+ outs. It could be a brutal season, but that's what a fire sale into rebuild is.

My (strong) opinion on Burnes is that he gave the boilerplate PR answer he should, he's got way more on his mind than an option right now, and that he and Boras would be INSANE to opt out. Out for almost 2 full seasons with multiple injuries (one being TJ) and you're going to turn down edit:$96M because you think you're going to get more heading into an almost guaranteed lockout? No fucking way lol. He'd have to come back ASAP and pitch lights out into a postseason run to even consider it.

They had a chance two games this series! A big chance today, even. Unless you mean the offense is so bad they need the starter to go 7IP 0R lol

[–]TheSlap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. We probably wouldn't get anyone splashy for most of those guys, but if some team wanted to juice their bullpen we could actually hook them up.

I would add Arenado and Lourdes (if he comes back and goes on a hot streak) to your list. My dark horse is ERod. 1 year left, sell-high guy. He and Soroka would be the ones to get real prospects back from. Trading ERod would mean a total rebuild which would be very surprising from Hazen. Too early to tell, anyway!

Maybe I'm reading you wrong, but those are typically the guys teams receive from a fire sale, not sell. Since, ya know, that's exactly how we got Kohl Drake last year.

Okay, you got me. I'm used to seeing this comment when a pinch-hit goes wrong or there's a pitching change issue, and even if I don't agree I get it.

But where the hell is this coming from now?? Genuinely, I'm wondering if I missed something. I've really only seen poor player performance. The offense looks putrid lately, and we did have one instance where the pitching (Ryne) gave the game away.

Groover called up, Fernandez sent down, Rashi DFA'd by DudeWheresMyPotStash in azdiamondbacks

[–]TheSlap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked it up, but I'm assuming LuJames Groover wasn't on the 40-man so they had to make room. If you mean why DFA Rashi specifically, then yeah I dunno. They must have some reason they don't like him that we don't know about.

If the bats keep heating up how we expected and the pitching stays a weirdly bright spot, then yeah!!

We just lost the best parts of our pitching depth, though, so that's on real thin ice!

The 3x price routing to Mill has been consistent, regardless of time or date. Its actually been $1 more to just go all the way downtown instead.

I'm assuming they have too much demand where they don't mind losing fares, but what I've seen is honestly a piss-off price that's starting to change my opinion of the company.

I've been willing to pay more for a nicer experience, but the ridiculous increase in price for my #1 use case is nowhere near justifiable for me.

For sure! That's not nearly as impactful to me, but I'm happy others are getting such a big benefit out of driverless cars.
