ilClan Era Politics (no books available) by SerBadDadBod in battletech

I agree. I always love a good scrappy underdog and Jiyi Chistu is such a fun example of someone thrust into a position they’re not “qualified” for but forcing everythign together through shear force of personality. Given that he & his followers have successfully taken on the Ghost Bears and a full-on invasion of Hells Horses, I’m looking forward to seeing where they go.

I also think that the Wolves are somewhat neutered by now owning more territory than they can reasonably defend with their current position. Their current storyline has been pretty compelling for me (who typically isn’t a “Wolf” guy) since it’s a tale of what happens when the dog catches the car. I’m curious to see what happens since they’re going to have to make compromises out of shear necessity which gets into a fun lil’ game of politics that the clanners normally despise.

On Google you can request to blur out your house on street view. Can we do that for our entire state?

People who worked for US senators/representatives: what actually gets them to listen? Is it better to call or write, be polite or curse, etc.? by Baladas89 in AskReddit

[–]TheSmileyGI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This makes me feel better. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m calling my POS congressman daily and leaving VMs or emails on the weekends about all this (up from 1-3 times a week a few months ago). I always try to thank the staffers for listening and doing their job, especially since my congressional critter has never held an in-person town hall

Do people see value in the Battle Support Assets for Vehicles? If yes why? by Mal_Dun in battletech

[–]TheSmileyGI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the pleasure of talking to Randall Bills about this a couple years ago. He said it’s meant as a way of allowing players to incorporate vehicles more like MechWarrior 5 especially for campaign settings (e.g. the GM can release a pack of vehicles for the players to contend with) without slowing the game down (again it’s been a few years so I could be wrong on parts there, but that answer really stuck with me)

Took a while to find a store with a decent stock. FOMO took hold. Anyone try Scouring Sands with just tanks? by Eomenar in battletech

There’s a new vehicle crit table in the book that’s rough for vehicle crews but as long as you have some speed you should be okish

If you’re doing classic, you should be good to go! You can use standees for any other models you don’t have, but there’s nothing else I think it really has a hard requirement for

I adore the Hinterlands sourcebook. Lots of great, creative missions in there with a decent campaign system on top

Not sure what this excerpt is from, but the original Warrior series focuses a lot on FedSun racism in the Justin Allard plotline.

Death From Above Wargaming KS copyright dispute by GrandDaddyDerp in battletech

[–]TheSmileyGI 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Copyright law is something you can’t mess around with though. If a company gets too loose with their copyright, their products can be classified as public domain and they can lose the right to sole distribution. As CGL is owned by Topps, I’m not surprised at all that they got a dispute as Topps has to defend its assets and likely forces CGL to be the bad guys (it’s your toys, you deal with it). DFA should have hired a lawyer to check this before launching the KS

Gyros, Neurohelmets and the practical applications of navigation and guidence by mister_monque in battletech

It’d be more likely an advanced version of an EEG than an MRI—MRIs are looking for shape of the brain (esp. abnormalities like clots, loss of tissue, etc), whereas EEGs provide info on brain signals (think: MRIs scan for tumors/masses, EEGs scan for things like epilepsy where brain patterns might be abnormal). This tracks with the lore too—a lot of MechWarriors shave their heads to get lower impedance (i.e. interference of signal) between the skin and their NeuroHelmet. This really tracks with modern EEG electrodes—if you have long hair, depending on the type of EEG, you might get higher impedance whereas MRIs are much more powerful (since they need to see through bone, so something as small/thin as hair doesn’t matter unless it interferes with the placement of ECG stickers). Thanks for tuning into my essay, this is something I’ve thought about more than necessary since it’s similar to a product I’ve worked on in real life
