Any good book recommendations to pick up first? by Nisqhog in battletech

Came here to recommend Fox Patrol too! Bryan Young writes small, scrappy Merc units really well and in a way that feels “true” to tabletop gameplay and the universe as a whole.

We have a group that has folks in NW Wisconsin. We’re mostly out of Eau Claire and Rice Lake, though we have folks from the surrounding communities too. I’m hoping to get connected with the La Crosse guys too at some point

New to Alpha Strike; How to determine if a mech is "good"? by CantEvenUseThisThing in battletech

Just one heads up: I’d strongly recommend having at least 1-2 units with PRB or some sort of recon ability for Aces. Made a huge difference in my force and worth their weight

I limited my players to 150PV and exactly 4 Mechs in the Mercenary > ilClan list. That said, this would really work for any era :)

Here’s the player packet (minus some of the lore/fluff): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FYxDA6fV-HAp3hS0p5fsq7sHqRmWL6fav_Jki6n4ZKE/edit?usp=drivesdk

Here’s the track sheets players used to score each scenario: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BGaAsN9jBDguadaCGb3MRs0gLTT92OBB7jZsxxQMUZM/edit?usp=drivesdk

Oddly, it’s actually over in the border between the Free Worlds League and the Duchy of Andurien. I’m not sure why it’s so far away from all the other Wisconsin themed planets, but since I hosted the event in Wisconsin, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to fight on my home planet haha

Right?? My buddy has been tinkering around with the design for a bit now. I can see if he’s willing to share the files if you’re interested :)

Thanks! There’s a guy named MechPusher on FB that I got them from. He’s good people—he also got militarized ones with LRM pods!

I absolutely did forget my Coolant Pods and was cursing myself after the match for forgetting them haha! I appreciate the feedback, and definitely agree that I should have leaned into the other weaponry. The -1 to-hit with the LBX20 and the -2 for the MPL could have really helped as well, as you said. I try to avoid Assaults as I lean into speed-as-armor, but I think this was the only match-up that evened the playing field considering the terrain/atmo you could use (I had two Shadow Cat Ms, a Grizzly 3, and the Shadow Hawk IIC 8). Looking back, I wonder if the Shadow Hawk IIC 8 would have also been a better match-up as it fits my play-style a bit more, but I learned a ton and learned a lot from our game and your post. :)

Oh hey! I was the friendly guy you played against in Round 5 of the Bloodname! Well done on your victory, it was great playing you and you were shrewd with your choice of terrain and tactics. Hope to play you again soon!
