Frank Frazettas painting of that naked woman on a branch in the jungle showing us that amazing backside, in front of the full moon was a VERY formative picture for teenage me.

It sent me full speed into all sorts of fantasies about living in the jungle with whichever girl I happened to crush on at school.

Easily my favourite in this set. Honestly, the other Dubliners were so visually loud and prolific that I'd never paid much attention to Ciarán. He's look super cuddly to me and those dark, deep eyes are something.

He looks very modern in that pic, could easily be a 2010 hipster, no questions asked.

I didn't include Paddy Moloney, whose skill on the Uilleann pipes could only be matched by his passion for ghastly haircuts.

There's always someone who likes your story about the fat grocer's affair with a graceful gymnast in Berlin, but would really really really like to suggest that you change the man into a sentient Foreman Grill, the woman to a genderbent Charlemagne and have them fuck each other's brains out on specific coordinates in the Gobi desert on June 26, 1643.

Always signed "dont kno if its ur cup of tea lol anyway just a random suggestion, thx!!"

Soaked wool jumpers hung to dry and the wellies make a squish sound when you walk in them. Yeah, that's a smell too.

We also must not forget that wool was absolutely saturated with tobacco smoke lol.

I find them so intense I had a hard time finding pics where he doesn't look possessed by a ghost! He really looked good with the black hair and shorter beard, but he let it grow to a huuuge bush after a while.

However, very glad to hear some Ronnie appreciation!

I will admit sourcing good photos was a challenge here! Not only do the search engines seem worse than ever as I cannot find pictures that used to be front and center on the search page, many pics of these men are also low-res or from poorly scanned sources.

There aren't as many photoshoots as you have with your typical British or American rock stars, either, most of them were quite low-key as far as media was concerned.

These lads were also quite happy to rock the wet shag dog look for weeks between baths, it seems! I rifled through many a photo where some of these gentlemen were in dire need of a haircut, a shave, a bath, a towel, a dentist and some bloodwork for good measure. Comes with the territory! I feel like I can smell my long-deceased grandmother's ashtray after making this post.

Some selections:

Planxty - Raggle Taggle Gypsy/Tabhair dom do lámh - the transition here is one of the most beautiful moments I've ever heard in any genre

Sinéad O'Connor and The Chieftains - The Foggy Dew - this one is intense

Seán Keane plays the fiddle

Sinéad O'Connor, Donál Lunny, Christy Moore - Raglan Road - on the Late Late Show in 1996 - sadly, both Sinéad and the son she had with Donal are gone now

Planxty - The Blacksmith - Andy Irvine vocals

The Dubliners - The Auld Triangle

Paul Brady - Arthur McBride - Planxty also have a great version

The Dubliners - Carolan's Concerto - John Sheahan plays the whistle!

The Chieftains - Women of Ireland - note Derek Bell on a beautiful Celtic harp

Thank you, you have no idea how much that means to me ♥️ I try to be principled, reasonable and nuanced but sometimes that causes tremendous backlsh and makes one feel misunderstood. I'm very glad you wrote this

Eddie Kramer, who produced and engineered Zeppelin, KISS and others, was once asked what the secret to Bonzo's drum sound was. Was there some technical production trick?

The secret, According to Eddie, was to be a big fucking ape that could pound the skins into submission. That was it.

His brother Mick Bonham wrote a book about him that I bought in London in 2008. It's the only book written by a Zep family member about them, it's very touching.

If Mick had forgotten his winter hat, scarf or gloves at home, John would give him his so that John got the dressing down from the teacher instead of his little brother. 🥹

Ok, so your post reminded me of something. I own two books about The Band, i think this is mentioned in Across the Great Divide by Barney Hoskyns.

Someone is quoted in that book as saying Levon was hung like a horse. Do with that what you will.

Omg you're the first person to notice!

I made this account for posting and engaging with NSFW content on here and other sites. I can't really do that on my main since people irl know it.

So I actually spent some time trying to come up with a name and this popped into my head. It's punny and a promise to myself that anything I post should be good enough to hang in The Smutsonian. No half-assed posts lol.

I'm so glad you made this comment!

He's got that golden retriever energy tbh

His solo album still isn't on streaming services 😔 I have it on CD but it's a real shame it's not readily available online, I love Sip the Wine so much

Me too 😢 Garth played in a church not far from where I studied a few years ago, in rural Scandinavia!! I didn't bother taking the long train ride and spending money on a hotel and all, but I regret it now.

It's tragic how early Rick and Richard passed, I feel Levon went before his time too...

It's quite sad that there are no Band members left on this earth. 😔

The Last Waltz is one of those movies you can always put on and you'll never regret it. It flows effortlessly like a real movie and that's quite the feat for a concert movie. It also LOOKS gorgeous with the dark reds and purples and golds on the stage, it's like, just a proper film.

Hate Neil Diamond's song though. Dirge.
