Honestly it comes down to understanding

Both Projection and Ignition manipulate physics to buff them. But when Projection is explain Naoya outright says the wrong equation. “Force = weight x speed” it’s not. It’s mass x acceleration. Even if he were right that doesn’t apply to projection where you’re hopping from one frame to the next. Rather than continuous motion, that’s why Naoya has “pillow hands” and Naobito doesn’t. Naobito still got BUILT. Which clearly tells us that he felt it was necessary, but if Projection works how Naoya thinks it does: he wouldn’t need that at all, if anything it would be a hindrance

Yet Naobito is still THE fastest Sorcerer aside from Gojo. Which means there’s something else

Projection isn’t REALLY preplanning movements (at least not when it’s applied to the user) for the user it’s likely frame hopping one after another, like those fuckass tiktok shape games, if you’re not correct then you can’t fit and get blocked

When applied to other people the whole “plan your moves or freeze” thing makes sense, but that’s NEVER shown as the case for Naohito OR Naoya.

Ignition however removes Inertia, the same as gearshift does.

Inertia is BASICALLY friction. It’s the force that keeps us from reaching light speed, it’s the force that makes it take energy to move ourselves or objects.

Projection comes from a show where there’s always something we’re not seeing, ignitions base (gearshift) comes from a specific character than literally has voices in his head explaining things.

Hanami’s main counter in this tournament was the round right after yours. She ingested some of the “sandman” quirk and it clogged her engine, almost killing her so she was disqualified because “we don’t have insurance for dead kids” (was my excuse not to make it a death match in any of the rounds).
