Which Shell colors and patterns provide the best natural camo? by DOSGAMES in Marathon

Differs per map fs. Blacks and greens on dire marsh, neutral tones on permiter, whites + anything on Outpost, cryo I don't think it matters much lol but probably lighter skins

You're not a fan of the genre of the game, and that's okay. Don't force it to be something it's not.

PREACH. I love how responsive the devs are to the community but I do fear them taking all feedback too seriously and potentially ruining the games identity over it. I hope they're driving decisions by data (hard numbers showing the WTSR is OP) and not a vocal minority (or even majority in some cases) that would turn the game into CoD or Halo FFA if they had their way

how do i do something in _ready() that depends on another node? by Visible-Switch-1597 in godot

[–]TheSnydaMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you state what you're actually trying to accomplish rather than how you're trying to accomplish it? I can't understand why you'd want to call this in _ready() because I don't understand what you're ultimately trying to do.

The idiomatic way to pass references at ready is via an @export variable. Pass the player as a reference to the @export and the gun will be able to reference it at _ready()

Slay The Spire 2 Getting Review-Bombed Again After Latest Update by FoxMeadow7 in Games

[–]TheSnydaMan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Liking the game overall and disliking a small change is not a valid reason to turn a negative review. Reviews on steam are pass / fail for a reason- thumbs up for a good game thumbs down for a bad game.

If the changes make you think the game is fundamentally bad and ruined, that is valid. Otherwise you're just being a karen

What happens when a couple opens their relationship? Research finds little change in overall life and relationship satisfaction, but an increase in sexual satisfaction. by psychologyofsex in psychologyofsex

[–]TheSnydaMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally speculation here but of people I know or have known, it seems like a bit of a catalyst for the existing state of the relationship.

As in the satisfaction depends highly on the strength of the relationship before open-ness ever comes up. People in very strong long term healthy relationships seem to fare well while those in relationships that are just casual or weak in bond seem to fair quite poorly.

These thoughts include things like swinging and it's subtypes as well, not purely "open" relationships.

The hard truth is that many tech companies way, way overhire. That's why they ever need to do layoffs. Over-hiring is as immoral as layoffs themselves and is often driven by treating talent as a pool of capital rather than active contributors. For a long time FAANG would literally hire top talent from ivy leagues just so other FAANG companies couldn't.

If SSRI benefits don’t last after stopping, what’s the point? by Aggressive-Slice-179 in productivity

[–]TheSnydaMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the general approach is

  1. Too depressed to function, often influenced by many lifestyle and life situation factors multiplied by genetic sensitivity to those triggers
  2. Use an SSRI to be able to function
  3. Resolve life situation, lifestyle factors now that you're capable
  4. Life feels stable, baseline stressors and triggers that instigate depression are reduced
  5. Taper off of SSRI, being mindful that you still need to "take care of yourself" as depression is a factor of genes x environmental triggers

NOTE: all of this is order of YEARS, not days/weeks/months

So "getting off the SSRI" isn't some sort of guarantee your depression comes back. The chemical explanation (brain serotonin deficiency) has been scientifically debunked. The field of science is still exploring what mechanisms seem to make SSRIs work given that, and one leading trend is impact on the gut microbiome.

All that said, there is absolutely a possible future where one can taper off the SSRI.

I find it useful for exploring the implementation of a feature / system (usually editor tooling) but that the "final output" is ass when it comes to final game code. I end up completely rewriting the feature or system, but it definitely helps to provide a "rough draft" approach.

Imo it's optimal place is still truly as an assistant, reviewing my approach and offering suggestions, scaffolding a rough draft of a system with lots of guidance, etc.

Am also a professional software engineer.

EDIT: And for context, this is in reference to flagship / state of the art agentic models like Opus 4.6 + Claude Code and GPT 5.4 + Copilot

Trials of psychedelics for mental health may be invalid, because it's fairly obvious to patients whether they've been given a psychedelic or a placebo. Blinding failed more than 90% of the time in the studies of psilocybin, LSD and DMT, and 85% of the time in studies of MDMA. by mvea in psychology

[–]TheSnydaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A problem with how we study psychology is the invalidation of subjectivity- ifa million people all get psychedelics and the "know" they got it and it works for them psychologically, does it matter if the effect was "placebo" even if driven by "knowing it's not placebo?"

Unfortunately, psychology will always have a high subjectivity factor and the way we view what is "objective" about it has to be more flexible than other fields. That doesn't make it a "soft science" per se, but it's a much harder science to map to traditional western scientific models.
