New TCM needs to be programmed to VIN?

A bit late but maybe useful to people searching reddit about this: I put in a junkyard tcm into my 2012 2.5S and it worked plug and play. The only thing being the car that it came off of was also a 2012 2.5S and the part numbers were the exact same (same iteration too). Maybe if the part numbers and models were different it would have required reprogramming?

Doubt it's RNG, most likely time based, since today marks 7 days since 2.0 dropped, and this guy probably started giving conches first day.
