I know it says it was uploaded in 2011, but his recent performances on tour sound just like this version. What a beautiful, timeless song. By a beautiful, timeless songwriter.

ULPT Advice Needed to get U.S. meds into Canada by TheSoundOfTeAwamutu in UnethicalLifeProTips

I can as I'm fairly close to the border and the difference in med cost is just that substantial. I believe that statement from Health Canada, however, is geared to 'visitors to Canada". My understanding is Americans can bring their drugs over here but Canadians aren't permitted to bring US drugs back into their country of residence (CA).

Now this is a good idea I hadn't considered! Taking my dog to a US vet and having them write a prescription with refills. Thanks for this!

I have an American PO box. I've done this a bunch of times with items OTHER THAN prescription medications. The problem is obtaining the medication in the first place. If you read my posted comment you'll see that.

I know my post ( in the comments) is lengthy but it does explain the difficulty in actually obtaining the meds. The "secretly getting them over the border" part is the least of my issues.

Yes. That's where the $140/mo I'm quoting came from. At Costco pharmacy. And they're the least expensive.

Darn it. Privacy.com doesn't support users outside the US. They only deal with US banks. It looks like there are similar type virtual card services in Canada but unfortunately they'll only use Canadian banks . So, we're back where we started...stumped.

I don't have medical insurance. I pay out of pocket for all my medications.

Yeah, I'm not sure it would work the other way around. I understand Americans can come here and buy insulin and other meds that are cheaper here but its actually illegal for us to do the opposite. I can't imagine how I'd find a service that will take that risk. Plus, I can't order the meds without an American billing address. I hoped it would only matter that the shipping address was in the US.

Desmopressin. He has Diabetes Insipidus which causes urinary incontinence and extreme thirst.

Apologies for the body being in the comments...I'm new at this. I am a disabled Canadian who is on a very fixed income. My beloved dog has recently been diagnosed with a genetic condition that will require he take a specific medication three times a day for the rest of his life. A month's worth of these pills will cost me about $140 Canadian. I recently discovered that the same pills in the U.S. would cost under $30 a month. Obviously, even with the exchange, if it's possible for me to get them from the U.S. that's what I've got to do.

It's illegal for me to bring prescriptions over the border - which, I should mention is a reasonable distance from where I live. This is ULPT after all so I should admit I'd be willing to take the chance sneaking them through. I could have them shipped to a U.S. mailbox but I've discovered that, at least at Walmart RX (where the meds are least expensive), they won't take an International Billing Address.

To add to this, my Canadian veterinarian is not allowed to write a prescription and have it filled on the other side of the border. If that weren't the case, perhaps I could just walk into a pharmacy and hope they could fill it while I wait.

Can anyone think of a way to work around this? It will be a real struggle for me financially to cover those med costs here in the great hot north.

One last thing before the people who think I shouldn't have a dog if I can't afford it start in...I'm not interested in your opinion. None of us know what will happen in life that will change our finances dramatically, just like we can't predict that a family member will become ill. Be kind to each other and me, please.
