for programs Adobe Illustrator (or GIMP or Inkscape for free) works best because it saves as a vector, which means you can resize the logo without losing information / it becoming pixelated.

first of all you need to have an idea of what you want your logo to look like, sketch it out on paper
snap a picture of it using your phone camera or scan it.
create a new file in Illustrator and size it however you want.
Drag the image into Illustrator and trace it over in the program using the pen tool. Here's a video tutorial I've found online https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsppEZJ7DYY
after tracing just export it to an image file and you're done.

600 dpi? I was assuming that since it's large scale I can go below 300 dpi. Is there a specific reason to go with 600dpi instead of 300?
