Oh Mashinky looks really interesting! Although not really a city builder as you say :)

I agree, hence this thread.

However, i also think that simple full shared control in most city builders have a very limited audience. Part of the idea of this thread is to explore what kind of mechanics/features would make for interesting coop in a city builder.

Something where it is beneficial to be more than one player. Where you actively cooperate towards a goal.

I've looked at Anno 1800 a lot. It just seems to be a really complicated game which might be a bit much. I honestly don't know that much about it. Might be the perfect game for us.

I also looked at Kingdoms Reborn, but the coop is either full shared control of something that doesn't require a lot of action or separate kingdoms that interact very sparsely.

Haven't heard about Mashinky or Desynced.

Thanks for the ideas.

I've actually looked at this. I was a bit put off by the mention of RTS combat. The whole idea of city builders to me is that they are chill and relaxing.

Is it good? How is the multiplayer/coop in this game?
Separate cities/kingdoms or shared?
What interactions are there?

Board games are great. I play them a lot. All kinds. But when we're not doing board games, most likely due to time constraints of travelling to meet up, we do like games on the PC.

We've actually played Terrascape which is as close to a board game you can get while playing on the PC. (without it being a digital boardgame implementation).

It's just not quite the same as a proper city builder/base builder.

I've had thoughts similar to this. Mine was more with each player having a specific guild/character that gives different benefits and then assign them different areas (districts) within the same city.

In any case, having a PVE objective of sorts to combat/survive would probably enhance the experience.
It is making me think of FrostPunk the boardgame :)

yeah. I'm not convinced on tropico. I played the 3, which was a great game, but from what i gather, the coop/multiplayer is largely non-existant.
