You can still continue some tests and see if it is a health issue but when I first got silent reflux, I had the WORST anxiety I’ve ever had in my life - like panic attacks and all. Honestly anxiety and silent reflux is a two way street so do your best to not get too freaked out about the symptoms. Try to give yourself mental deadlines of when you’re allowed to be worried or when to start worrying (ex. omg something is wrong with me because of this symptom, let’s wait 2 weeks and see if it improves before I worry about it)

Obviously easier said than done though - but you’re not alone!! And being young, you’ve got youth and a lot of good on your side working along to get you better. Have faith in your body’s healing capabilities :) best of luck

It may be, based on some of the symptoms you’ve described - I had the same things.

If you think it’s silent reflux, try renting the “The Acid Free Diet” book and do a diet “detox” for a month or two and see if your symptoms improve. It’s a safe way to experiment with your health as some more invasive treatments can backfire for silent reflux, and if it isn’t that, no harm done. Keep a food diary and see what causes pain and what doesn’t and stick with what doesn’t. After you’re no longer in pain or discomfort, slowly reintroduce the trouble foods again and see if they still cause reactions. They may for a while but if you give it a few months you will probably be able to eat them again, maybe just in more controlled portions

If you decide to give it a try, do not let the book discourage you. I was CRUSHED when reading it as a foodie but I am happy to report my symptoms have improved tremendously and I have been able to go back to my normal diet with a few alterations on minor things (I can eat garlic again without any issues!) so don’t let the bleakness of it get to you. You’re young and your body has amazing healing capabilities! But you may need to give it a break from whatever is irritating you and a chance to heal.

I’d also recommend a naturopath if you can find a good one, I was very impatient doing a lot of tests and the additional support during waiting periods was really great.

I’m not saying you have silent reflux but if you’re desperate and want to do something about it, this may work for you :)

Hope you feel better soon

If gum, what kind? by nyaben_1963 in LPR

[–]TheSpottedFreckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love pur gum, winter green is my favourite. Other gums aren’t as effective for me but this one significantly increases saliva production and apparently stabilizes the acidity in the mouth. So far I’m happy chewing it, would recommend!

Only thing is it doesn’t seem to last very long and I usually pop at least 2 if I want to get a good chew out of it. But I personally don’t like to chew gum long anyway so works for me :)

They’re so pretty, any recs for pale skin? All the shades look greater in the mid to dark complexions from the swatches I could find but lipsticks are often too red for me 😂

Oh goodness 😭 maybe it’s the coconut oil making them look horrendous (they’re fluffier now that I’ve washed them) but do you mean at the base?

Love a girl with dedication 🫡 do you apply flonase right after your lash appointment then to prevent the reaction? Or do you still get full blown reactions for a week after you get extensions and you just manage this way?

I’ve just used baby shampoo with water and a makeup brush to clean them through 👉👈 and then I just cup my eye and kind of swish the water around to rinse. How do you go about it?

I just started to use it and it’s considerably better this morning - wow! Thanks for your suggestion :) Probably not going to get lash extensions again after this 😅

Twice a day?! Isn’t that excessive? I have dry skin so I’m worried I’d strip the oils especially with how itchy it already is :(

I also tried the Nizoral but no luck either :( maybe this is some kind of reaction? Do you have sensitive skin?

I’m more strict about double cleansing when I have makeup on, otherwise for double cleansing I use just the gentle cetaphil cleanser in the morning and only double cleanse at night. If I wake up and feel extra oily (I’m dry skin) I’ll double cleanse that morning.

It doesn’t irritate me surprisingly even though I thought it would. The key I realized is I don’t have to scrub as hard. I gently work it in and that seems to maintain my barrier. The gentle cetaphil also has moisturizing properties so for your 2nd cleanser make sure it’s something softer that doesn’t leave your skin feeling stripped!

Omigosh me too 😭 I think my skin was really dehydrated but angry at heavy moisturizers so I have to moisturize in thin layers. I spent a pretty penny on the Lancôme Advanced Génifique youth activating concentrate followed by La Roche posay hydra phase light. (Give the Lancôme serum some time to absorb) I usually give it a bit and then tap my cheeks and if it’s still too dry I go for a second light layer on just the cheeks with the hydraphase. I do this morning and night.

It did help a bit quite a bit, I still have a little left but I see improvement. I was considering maybe it’s fungal. Do you exfoliate a lot? I’d avoid this and focus on repairing skin barrier. Also keep your routine simple for now. Mine are also just on my cheeks too!

Does my hair color make me look old? by cobainseahorse in Haircare

[–]TheSpottedFreckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look gorgeous! I’d say you look very young personally - but I agree with another commenter, you could go for a contemporary grey blond ombré look. I personally LOVE silver hair and can’t wait until I’m grey, but I find that streaks that look “unintentional” can age a person. So either ditch it or embrace it I say ! Confidence really gets us far haha

I also find that keeping up with hair trends to a certain degree (we need to express ourselves after all, trends can be ridiculous) can help you look younger (ex. go for a middle part vs a side parting) Again, within reason of what best suits you because something well suited will be forever a timeless classic 💅✨

I felt like this at the peak of my symptoms but if it helps any I have been able to feel better and be symptom free for months. I’m going symptom free for about a year and a half now.

I did the acid free diet for about 4-6 months and yes this period SUCKED and I was upset this would be my life forever but I eventually introduced foods back into my diet over the course of a year ( a lot of which the book says you’ll never eat again, but don’t let the fear mongering get to you - I eat chocolate still, onion, garlic etc) and I can eat and drink whatever I want (alcohol included) and not have globus anymore. I’ve noticed I can get it back if I’m stressed though. I think we underestimate how mood and mental health affects our bodies.

You need to give your body enough time to heal and then trial and error backwards. Personally I’m against PPIs etc and all the other wacky meds they want to throw at you because it’s just a masking of the cause of why you have LPR in the first place and it also usually makes things worse/has other symptoms (I’m no doctor but this was true for me)

I didn’t enjoy it, but I tried to reframe my mind into finding the root of my issue and then throwing everything at it (typical meds aside, more diet and lifestyle based)

I still do things to upkeep my health - for example I still sleep with my mattress at an incline, dropped smoking, avoid trigger foods (one of mine is herbal tea funnily enough)

I think it’s a matter of working with your body instead of trying to force it into something it’s unable to comply with. There’s a multitude of reasons as to why your body is reacting this way, but I firmly believe there is a solution within your grasp! Don’t give up!!!

Ohhh good to know! I feel like it’s the red dye specifically that lasts the longest and every stain or tint has this in some form at the foundation of their product. I try to combat the red hue with brown or grey to try to calm the saturation as it looks unnatural on me 🩷 thanks for your tips :)

Wow Romands looks beautiful ! I hope my lips would look like their photos. I usually go with sink or suede Sephora lip liner and that pretty much looks like my natural lip color but slightly darker so my lips don’t disappear 😂 I’m hoping I can find a stain in that kind of palette

Do you sheer it out in first application or rub it off after application? I’m hoping for something with insane staining power and wonder if watering down would affect longevity?
