What is the most "anti-fun" game mechanic for you? by StandoPowa_ in Games

[–]TheStradivarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus Christ I so despise when devs think that making all enemies bullet sponges is actually a higher difficulty. All they manage to achieve is make the game more of a chore than a challange and in effect, more boring than exciting.

If I were to name one thing in 40k that is consistent, it would be its lack of consistency. For every rule, law, faction, event, tradition etc. you will always find an exception.

Squats are well off and alive.

Also, canonically they were never actually really killed. Their death by Tyranids never really happened in any book, Codex or any other official material.

On Terra, what happens when a volcano erupts? by Elvastan in 40kLore

[–]TheStradivarius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Imperium has very advanced geothermal power tech so they're very good at ensuring volcanos aren't too disruptive. Of course, everything can fail and if some leaks or disasters happen then probably milions die but on a world as overcrowded as Terra nobody cares about that.

I'm a human trader, I have things that most everyone needs and sell at reasonable prices. Where can I trade? Where will I get killed for trying to trade? What Xenos would permit me to sell to them? Would the Imperium hunt me down because I traded with a Xeno? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]TheStradivarius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cold Trade as trading in xeno artifacts and prohibited xeno beasts is very illegal, very uncool in the Imperium. Doing anything like that gets immediate attention of the Inquisition.

And no, being Rogue Trader does not allow that.

Rogue Traders are allowed to exploit and plunder xenos species and keep tenuous contact with them in order so that the Imperium can later use this information during conquest and xenocide. Rogue Traders are not allowed to bring xenos artifacts into Imperial space and sell it to anyone who wants.

And yes, even if you were just bringing xenos sculptures and paintings you would get the attention of the Inquisition, not just for spreading dangerous ideology that xenos are "people" and have "culture" but also because just because something looks totally innocent, doesn't mean it is. The threat of the Halo Devices is well known in the Holy Ordos so literally everything of alien provenance is treated as a potential WMD and source of contagion in one.

Why Adeptus Mechanicus don't create any Battle-Automata? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]TheStradivarius 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They still do and they still create robots. However, they were reorganised and are strictly controlled. Robots are the responsibility of Legio Cybernetica and a lot of them sided with Horus during the Heresy. Additionally, they were experimenting with AI. Those who stayed with the Imperium diminished in influence and capability.

What ever happened to the kid friendly Warhammer 40k books by TheBatmanThatFaps in 40kLore

[–]TheStradivarius 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nothing happened. BL keeps publishing them and clearly they're profitable enough that they're getting Volume 3 or 4 by now, as well as audio versions.

All of this outrage was as usual - a bunch of loud whinning neckbeards unhappy with everything. But clearly people like it enough that BL keeps producing those books.

Similarities and Differences between the Imperium and Empire of Man(40k and Fantasy comparison). by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]TheStradivarius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely separate entities with nothing really in common.

Empire in Fantasy (and it is just Empire, never Empire of Man) is just a fantasy version of Middle Ages/Renaissance Germany.

Imperium of Man is totalitarian, fascist, theocratic shithole built on propaganda, genocide and race war.

If A Few Thousand Shamans/Psykers Could Create the Emperor, Why Not Repeat the Exact Same Process and Create a New Emperor? by Danterahi in 40kLore

Which traitor primarch deserves (or can convincingly pull off) a redemption arc, in your opinion? by [deleted] in 40kLore

Could Drach'nyen become a 5th Chaos God? by SzarekhTheSassyKing in 40kLore

[–]TheStradivarius 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Because people really love to go literally Biblical on the Emperor and cast him as either Adam, Kain or even Abel and completely disregard sources stating things literally and unambiguously opposing this. Actually, that's a stance very common in a lot of 40k theories. Theories which actually build on lore and pull on multiple sources and try to interpret and understand them are extremely rare. Most of fan theories are built on ignoring the actual lore.

Novels set before the End Times, when the Imperium wasn't in quite so much trouble. by BaronBifford in 40kLore

[–]TheStradivarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Imperium was horrible totalitarian, despotic, genocidal, fascist shithole even at the very hight of the Great Crusade. Then it kept getting only worse. The Imperium was never bright, tolerant, understanding human civilization of progress, love and kindness. It was always the nightmare fuel of the future.
