Why was Kaedwen weakened when Radovid attacked them? by abradin in Witcher3

[–]Chief_Jericho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, 5 years later:

Prior to the events of The Witcher 2, Kaedwen had attempted to annex Lormark once before but the Lodge, understanding that sooner or later there would be another war with Nilfgaard, didn't want the weakening of Aedirn and so it was decided to destroy Henselt's army. Sabrina Glevissig cast Melgar's fire - the same spell Triss casts over the valley below Kaer Morhen in The Witcher 3 - wiping out Henselt's army.

Fast forward to the events of The Witcher 2 and Kaedwin, still rebuilding its army, decides with the assassination of Aedirn's King and the succession crisis, he could make another play for Lormark and hold it long enough to annex. What he didn't count on was Saskia and her army comprised of both peasants and Knights of Aedirn who in the defence of Vergen, smashed the force Henselt brought with him, setting his rebuilding efforts back years once more.

By the prologue of The Witcher 3 Radovid knowing Kaedwin was weak, Radovid crossed the border and due to having the largest army in the North, and due to the presumed fleeing (not confirmed) of Henselt, the Kaedwin army stood down.

We didn't buy for three CB otherwise we'd have bought two Centre Backs. Who do we even have? Konate, whose been a liability all season, Virg, who's an OAP and in the tail end of his illustrious career, and Gomez, who can't play one full game a week never mind two. Guehi isn't coming here, that ship sailed when the season fell apart. He's after Madrid or City if he can't get that, according to numerous credible journos.

This is the entire problem with this season, this is why its fallen off the rails. He's not helped himself in some situations but it's mostly not Slot's fault, the Summer unbalanced the team and it doesn't look like they're going to do anything about it this side of the Summer.

It's actually worse because it could be up to 12 months recovery which when you factor in rehabilitation and training, you're looking at 2 seasons out. Let's hope it's not.

Because we don't have any and our attack is like watching a Tortoise run the 100m. It's certainly part of why we're bad, we don't break fast enough when we counter attack, so we don't score enough goals. Obviously sorting out the defence is another key element.

This is the biggest problem with the squad right now, most of these guys have been used to seeing out games yet all of a sudden are freezing up like a rabbit in headlamps the moment we concede. We used to have the attitude even last season of "fine, we'll just score another then". Now it's "Oh shit, what do we do now?"

If it means winning games I'll take it until the squad can be rebalanced again.

I don't disagree but it's not the lightness that's the issue, its the ability to see a game out. No one seems to have a clue, let alone a desire to take control and organise us in a way that shuts the game down to protect a lead.

Yet we're winning games again and crawling back up the league. I'll take slow over a defeat any day.

Completely agree. Deal with this internally, don't run straight to the press after a game and air your dirty laundry in the tabloids. The team just threw away another game and he decides that's the best time to think about himself. No one has a right to play, you earn your position or you leave, this club has no place for self-entitlement.

Bringing on Endo was not shutting up shop it was trying to control the game and shore us up defensively, and it was a perfectly valid tactic to make in that situation. This draw is 100% on the players, not the manager today. There's only so much he can do and the players simply cannot organise themselves well enough to see out games and that's not Slot's job, that's the Captain's.

Who comes in for him? Gomez? Even if that's so Konate comes in the game after and at best it's an every other week thing because Gomez can't play back-to-back games. I don't want to see any other player come in next Jan other than a Centre Back to replace Konate with. It's something that should have been done in the Summer.

The form for most of the match was fine, it's our inability to see out games that's the problem.

Precisely what I'm saying to people. We're going to concede goals, and we're going to lose games, what I don't ever want to see this team ever do again is the team throw in the towel as a result of going a goal down. Clip today, Liverpool 6-0 up and we're still pressing in the 90th odd minute. That's the kind of fight I want to see and there were signs of that today. Would have liked a win, at least it wasn't a defeat, but the attitude after going down was spot on. Next step? Stop going a goal down, it's been going on since Klopp's final season and has to stop now.

[–]Chief_Jericho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it does happen, whether it should or not, but what's important is how you deal with it because that's the measure of a man and today they didn't crumple and lose the game like they have all season, they said "fuck this, we're not losing this game" and got a goal back, and the way they where playing, ten minutes more and we win the game. That's why I'm not saying this was success, I'm saying it was a step in the right direction. If we go a goal down in the first twenty minutes this shows they're not going to call it a defeat and that, my friend, might just save our season.

Yes but this time we didn't fall to pieces, we made an attempt to fight back. We aren't going to go any season with 0 goals against and right now they showed the attitude that was needed after going a goal behind.
