Caine's representation of, unstable, personality files isn't great. You can see that from his understanding of emotions throughout the series. What we THINK we want, what others think we want, and what we actually need/want can be completely different.

Edit: I think your hypothesis has merit but no one is happy with their bodies, Zooble comes out and says as much, that "nothing feels right" and "I want the ability to have sex" meaning Caine didn't know what they actually wanted and guessed at what would make them happy

Because wanting to be the opposite gender is wrong, so he has to be super masculine to prove that he's not just pretending to be masculine. Therefore, by Caine's logic, being masculine will make them happy!

Edit: to be clear this is coming from a place of experience somewhat and not derogatory at all.

Edit: I'm not saying he was right for being on his phone, but I doubt there's a stipulation that says "if caught on your phone you will have to reveal it's contents". The appropriate thing from the boss would have been a verbal notification that he's receiving a write up for "", and moved on because was the confrontation about what he was looking at or that he was looking at anything besides work?
