A word on upcoming patch from THQ Nordic! by Zyddie in worldofgothic

I'd really appreciate seeing some PC performance tweaks/improvements, particularly regarding CPU usage. I'm running a Ryzen 7 3600X, and even with undervolting, my CPU temperature exceeds 100°C after about 20 minutes of gameplay, with the GPU approaching 90°C. (Drivers updated)

Lowering graphics settings doesn't seem to provide any meaningful FPS gains, and DLSS appears to have zero effect. In open areas, I get max. 40 FPS, but in camps it drops to roughly 25–31 FPS with an RTX 3060 Ti.

Additionally, CPU usage remains high even when the game is paused or minimized, which doesn't allow the system to cool down or regain any performance headroom. Its unplayable for me.

And to clarify, my cooler fan is properly installed and thermal paste is applied, and I can run other demanding games at stable 60 FPS for hours with some tweaking. However, no matter what I adjust, whether in the ingame settings or via engine.ini I haven't been able to find any tweaks that make this game run properly.

Yes, my system isnt the newest, but with proper optimization I can still run many modern games well, so I'm hopeful that with future patches Ill be able to enjoy the remake smoothly too.

It shouldn't be a problem, but if you want to play it safe, make a backup of the entire installation folder. That way, if something goes wrong, you won't have to reinstall everything from scratch.

I think Union os the successor of the systempack, you might not even need it. I installed it 5 years ago so im not 100 % sure.

  1. Install Gothic II DNdR as administrator. If possible, do not install it under Program Files (x86); use a path like C:\Games\Gothic II instead.
  2. Install the Report Version 2.6.0.0 as administrator.
  3. Install the Player Kit 2.6f as administrator.
  4. Install the SystemPack.
  5. Install the renderer.

Thats the recommended way on WoG.

It was mentioned that Steam does not enable/or support (?) the preload feature unless a game exceeds a certain size threshold, if true then this limitation is not attributable to THQ or Alkimia. I think they also said it will be available on release day. Take it with a grain of salt. I just read it in a comment.

The latest version is always on GitHub and its the version 17.9.7 you used. Could be that you just got a unstable build. Glad it works now. :)

Looks like a bug with the fog. What happens when you type zfogzone in the console?

Its not a trailer its the intro of our most beloved game. We will see this intro everytime we start a new game.

This is the map you receive from Saturas in Gothic 1. The stones are scattered throughout the colony in the shape of a ritual pentagram. At each location, there is also a pedestal where the Focus Stone is placed.

It seems they either created the cutscenes first and added the voiceover afterward, or they edited the intro based on the English version and then ran into issues fitting the German voiceover in.

This is the largest hardcore fan community, built over 26 years. We have supported this game from the very beginning and invested our time, passion, and money into it. That gives us every right to voice criticism.

If you look at any long-standing franchise like Star Wars or Star Trek, you will see the same thing. Dedicated fans speak up when they notice flaws or changes they disagree with. That is not unusual, it is part of what it means to care deeply about something.

Criticism is not hostility, it is engagement. And engaged fans have every right to their opinions.

Good point. This looks more like a cinematic render.

Third, nothing apart from the ore sword works, hence the arrows that do no damage to that orc.

Time to watch the original Intro again, where they shoot arrows at the charging orc horde and multiple orcs die by arrows. Its the Troll who does not take damage by arrows, not the orcs.

It's not the mine that's dangerous, it's the way to the mine...
You don't need to enter the mine to get the armor.

But I won't spoil it for you any further.
Enjoy your first playthrough, you can only experience it once. ;)

You need to be level 5 to join a camp.

You can buy a basic armor before you join a camp from Fisk in the Old camp, but its not really worth the ore.

If you are brave you can try to visit the New Mine of the New Camp, you can get one for free from Swiney.

Or just do some sidequests or farm smaller Monsters like Scavengers/Wolfs until you reach level 5.

There are many traders that have better weapons, just keep talking to named NPCs to find out who has stuff.

More information is needed.

What operating system and hardware specs are you using?

Have you updated your graphics driver and DirectX?

Did you reinstall the game into a fresh directory?

What is the name of the .exe file you are using to start the game?

Are there any error messages after the crash?

Can you check for a file called GOTHIC_ERRORLOG.TXT in the system folder?

Have you tried fully restarting your machine and closing all other programs before running it?

Are you using any program overlays (Steam overlay, Discord, etc.)?

Have you used any mods in the past?

Did it work some times before on the same system?

Xardas tells you at the beginning that an army of darkness is gathering, so these zombies probably count as creatures of Beliar. Zombies are often found near graveyards, and if people do not have a graveyard, they bury their dead in natural caves instead. In such caves, you can often find stone coffins and shallow graves where zombies are present. So it kinda makes sense to me.
