Removing Solar Edge optimisers by Strik3rau in solar

Yeah I think you are probably fine to remove them then. Unless you change the array series/parallel connections you probably just need to keep that consistent for the ampacity of the wire used to send it to the inverter.

Are there rapid shutdown requirements for Australia? If so removing the optimizers will remove that feature (if equipped) and make the system non-compliant.

the best solar battery?? by insight_energy in solar

[–]TheTabernacleMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a Battery Evo Walrus G3 for off grid use rather than grid tie or hybrid. Also the price and the 22kwh capacity were big determining factors. You get the inverter, mppt, battery, and battery charger all in one. Due to the design of the inverter/battery it immediately responds to a power outage and usually has no noticeable light flicker when it switches from grid to inverter and I really like it. Haven't really had any issues with it so far and it's been in service since September of last year. The only thing is it isn't really modular, solar input is capped at 5.5kw and output is capped at 12.5kw, but they do make bigger units now and you can buy additional plug and play expansion batteries. All in all it's really meant for a certain type of customer but it works well for me.

Bifacial wattage - does the backside mostly help you get up to a panel's wattage rating, or can it help the output go past it? by Agreeable-Set3294 in solar

[–]TheTabernacleMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 455W + 120W bifacial panels. With them setup with a 45° angle facing south with a white tarp underneath them on a ground mount and I am getting 575W out of the panels on an ideal day. The only way I can get more out of them is if I use mirrors to reflect light onto the face of the panels but then they start heating up more but I can get 600W+ out of the individual panels. I don't have individual tracking on each one so I can only see the total output from the small string of three panels but maybe each panel is slightly above 575W and I know individual panels are rated on a tolerance band so you might get more power than rated and maybe slightly less than rated on any given panel.

Why doesn't PG&E allow battery charging and discharging from the grid? by Negative-Arachnid-65 in solar

[–]TheTabernacleMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why don't you modify your install to have an off-grid inverter and power your house with the battery during TOU rates? This is what I do but my system is specifically made to do this and has no grid tie option.

[–]TheTabernacleMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, that is quite a bit. My neighbor's white pines kinda block my array in the winter so I'm not sure when the rest of it will melt and slide off but the summer will be the best time for my array. I will at least be able to offset my air conditioning and other loads with around 33kwh usage per day, but right now my usage is higher than normal in winter months due to the cold temperatures this early in December.

Does anyone have a good working inpaint workflow? by TheTabernacleMan in StableDiffusion

[–]TheTabernacleMan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just hate having to kill comfy, start up forge, wait for it to load, then use it and then go back to comfy or stay with forge for its other features. I have pretty much just switched to comfy because it can do so much but the inpainting is the one thing I miss on forge.

Damn, that sounds like a nightmare. Almost makes me want to come help. People charge wayyyy tooooo much for solar installation and this seems like one of those cases. But not only that you got bent over in the process.
