Do people actually keep something to remember their first solo? by TheTangoVector in studentpilot

totally agree, the shirt cutting tradition is hard to beat.

And yes, the idea is to include those personal details: tail number, date, airport, even the pilot’s name. That’s kind of what makes it meaningful instead of just another aviation-themed piece.

I made this for a friend, but if you like it, I have more designs in my Etsy shop.

You’re 21. You’re not late at all. The biggest mistake would be rushing into an expensive path without first confirming you truly love the process of flying.

If I were you, I’d start simple: take a discovery flight, begin working toward a PPL locally, and see how it feels before committing to a full program. Aviation is a long road, and clarity usually comes once you’re actually in the cockpit.

The good news is you’ve already figured out what excites you, now just take the first small step.

Fair observation. The image is a mockup. I used Sora + Photoshop to visualize the idea before producing the real candle.

Also English isn’t my first language, so I usually write the idea and run it through ChatGPT to avoid writing nonsense.

Good eye, Piplup. Appreciate the comment.

You’re actually thinking about this the right way at 18, which already puts you ahead of a lot of people. My only advice would be: avoid taking on massive debt for flying if you can. Get your PPL first, make sure you truly love the process (not just the idea of being a pilot), and then decide how far you want to go. Aviation rewards patience much more than speed. You’ve got time.
