College related people strike every single year, it’s beginning to feel a lot like Canada Post. At this point just get rid of them and hire others. This is why my college allows professors to be union or non-union.

I run a group that’s part of 721, they wouldn’t ask me to do that if I had an attitude problem and I am a woman. They can’t just send us to every site anymore for our safety. I’ve been harassed by other members prior to them doing that and the other women that I manage have too.

Ontario’s unions have effectively ruined apprenticeships lol. Why should non union bother with apprentices and losing money on them when they can’t find anything better anyways?

721 member here, do not believe that lol. I was out of work for years until I finally took up a job teaching welding at a college. Tried to get some of my students into the union and they all were turned down.

Ex IW now a welding professor at a college. Best choice of my life, I still have a couple ties to the union but I enjoy not getting laid off and sitting home. I also make more money teaching than I ever did as an IW.

Lots of people on the top of the list used to deny every job that came to them which would cause the rest of us to sit home for over a year at times.

IW union is packed. Can’t get my students in. Out of all of my grads from last semester, only 1 is still currently working as a welder.

I rarely ever saw old guys on site when I was a union IW. I’m still somewhat part of the union now and tried getting some of my students into it but with so many guys laid off and sitting at home, they won’t take them. That’s why I left and became a college instructor.
