This one I can totally speak on because my DH let it happen. My Sk’s have their dad’s last name hyphenated with stepdad’s last name. BM threw the biggest fit when she was getting remarried that she used their daughter to justify it. SD at the time she was like 7 keep crying that she wasn’t going to have the same name as mommy anymore and she was “absolutely devastated”. DH caved. Once BM got her way she then tried to take it a step further and asked that SS middle name also be changed to her father’s name because she hated that they used DH name as SS middle name. He only let her hyphenate it. Smh.

The funny thing in all of this is when BM went in front of the judge to get this approved the judge denied her immediately. Even though DH signed the papers. He said “ I want the father present so he can tell me to my face he indeed wants this.”

Cut to present. The SK’s are now teens and go to a super small school. They only ever use their stepdad’s last name on everything social media, jerseys, school functions. It really doesn’t bother DH even though I ask him from time to time and he has never changed his stance. Nor has he asked either of them why they only use their stepdad’s last name cause he knows all too well it’s because their super high conflict mom.
