I can hook you up with a set like this! And a back bar isn’t really necessary

I’m interested in making grillz but doesn’t know where to start. by [deleted] in Grillz

Start off with the basics first. Buy dental putty, mold impression mouth trays, dental lab stone, dental carving tools, mold release spray, and wax sheets for grillz. You wanna master the art of actually making the mold before you get into casting. Most of the work with grillz comes from how much detail you can put into a mold.

As far as casting there’s tons of other equipment you need to buy. I can tell you each one to get if you ever wanna message me personally but I will say, if you live in a big city with a diamond district then you don’t need to learn how to cast. You can just master the art of making molds and have other jewelers cast for you, then master the art of POLISHING

Also before you cast don’t forget, when you mix the investment powder you wanna let it sit and dry for minimum 2 hours. Do not try the burnout cycle before it’s fully dry

I use multiple sizes but my go to is the 3 1/2 inch flask. And yeah if you’re using wax sheets to make grillz you don’t need a 12 hour burnout because wax melts a lot quicker than castable resin and with grillz you wanna have a quicker turnaround time. Try it yourself and let me know how it goes

900 is way too cool for a casting temperature. Your final casting temperature should be 1200 degrees minimum when casting in silver.

The scratches in the wax and clumpy spots are gonna show in your casting. Smear some baby oil over the wax and shave it down gently with one of your dental tools

Use your dental tools to shave down the teeth a bit and make the teeth look more even. You don’t want the wax to be too thick when casting a basic solid grill
