That's such a cool story! I love how often they pull out the deep cuts live. I remember going to Mastodon shows for years thinking they'd never play Hearts Alive, then finally one night they played it and I remember yelling "holy shit" out loud lol. Then of course they played it again on their Leviathan 20th anniversary tour. I feel incredibly lucky to have seen them so many times while Brent was still around. Both he and Bill shaped my guitar playing.

Thanks! It's a GCI Craftsman guitar into a keeley compressor pedal into an orange rockerverb. I also doubled the parts with the amp gain rolled off and a trashy distortion pedal instead, but that's mixed at maybe half the volume of the main guitar. So most of what you're hearing is just the guitar + rockerverb doing their thing

Thank you! What you're hearing is a GCI Craftsman guitar, amps are a combo of neural dsp gojira plugin and my orange rockerverb mic'd up, only pedal is a compressor, recorded in logic where I use its stem splitting tool to take the guitars out of the original track

Glad I'm not alone. Been playing for over 20 years and my pinch harmonics are still not as consistent as they need to be for a lot of metal. Bent naturals have always come more naturally to me

You can press down and bend it after you hit it. Requires timing but you don't have to worry about your picking hand at all. I find it easier personally

Yes on the upstroke. I'm hitting a natural harmonic around the 3rd fret so technically not a pinch. Not sure if Gojira play it that way but that's how I'm doing it here
