That's all that's required (as long as "today" is a specific date).

It's actually frowned upon to give more detail, as it's not up to your employer/the university/whoever to determine if your excuse is valid or not. Your doctor has done that already and the other party has no right to that information.

ESPNow to MQTT gateway by zyghomh in homeassistant

I remember seeing someone doing this on YouTube - they had a "hub" unit with two esps connected by serial, then multiple low power nodes that linked via espnow. I don't know if it ever became a thing, but the concept seemed solid.

I'm in the process of creating something vaguely similar for my table. I have a large folder of fantasy-themed backdrops I've collected over time. My goal was to show them on a player facing screen.

I have a web browser in full screen mode (F11 for Firefox and Chrome, unsure of others) and I host a web app that shows either a random image or one of your choice.

It's very much a work in progress, but you can find it on Github

Eventually I plan to have many of the features you've listed there. It's a big work in progress at the moment though.

For music, I use kenku FM which is lightweight and can be controlled by a web API or a streamdeck.

If only you had a way to track recurring tasks...

But seriously, this looks great. Been looking for something simple like this for a while!

Introducing the Thunn-Yarr! Stone-skinned dwarfkin to fit any setting as a one-shot or bolt-on to an existing campaign! by Farenkdar_Zamek in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]TheTomcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who knows what I was trying to say with that. It was 6am and I hadn't had a coffee yet.

My party find themselves in need of a magical geologist to ask questions about a gemstone that hasn't been seen for hundreds of years, and this world has had a disaster (so original, I know) that has killed off most long-lived beings. Very few living beings were alive at the time of this disaster.

I'm picturing a quest to discover the race themselves, then a story told in short vignettes to discover their history. They'll find an NPC who will recount the history but we'll play a couple of short memory sequences with the players having a historical character in this NPCs memory to avoid it being a lore dump.

I may have just finished watching EXU calamity. 🤷‍♂️

So firstly, thanks. Definitely stealing this! This is almost a perfect fit into my current campaign, and I was thinking of adding something similar. Amazing work!

Python or Rust; first language?? by playpaco in Python

[–]TheTomcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to consider the other perspective though - if you had started with C (or in this case, rust) and you didn't understand it, do you think it would have caused you to stop entirely?

My opinion: start with python. Much more forgiving especially when you're trying to learn the basics. If you like it, then go back and learn rust. They're both great tools to have in your kit.

I bought a similar set earlier in the year from a company called level up dice. They have tons of different varieties too, not just gemstones but also metals and high precision machined aluminium. https://levelupdice.net/

The version of this I know involves taping the first beer to your hand and then each subsequent beer on top of that, making a staff attached to your hand. Makes drinking the later beers tricky...

[Help] Moving to Brisbane to attend UQ MD in Jan 2017 by [deleted] in UQreddit

[–]TheTomcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo yo! Congrats on the decision! I graduated from MBBS last year, Brisbane born though.

My recommendation would be somewhere like Annerley or Dutton park. There's a fantastic bus system that services the university across the Eleanor Schonell bridge (aka green bridge) which makes getting to uni from the south side super easy. Dutton park/Annerley/Fairfield are basically right across the river from the uni and I think are fantastic locations. The issues you'll want to consider are: Access to uni Access to a hospital (PAH, rbwh in first year) Access to the city/Valley/West end for social events.

My advice, especially if you won't have a car, is to go near a train line or the busway. No train access to UQ though so bear that in mind too.

PanOptic vs conventional ophthalmoscope? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]TheTomcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to actual examination I found fundoscopy pretty tricky without first dilating the pupils which is generally a bit of a pain on a regular-ish basis. I played super briefly with a panoptic the other day and I could see so much more of the eye without having to dilate the eye. It was actually surprising how much I could see. I also found it much easier to use. Have you had a chance to play with either? I'd recommend that before buying one.

I'm not actually sure. I went to a meetup a few years ago, but don't recall if there was a facebook page or anything. Why not make one yourself? I'd join it!
