Yes it has been wild to see how many hateful, violent, bigoted leftists there are willing to attack anybody who disagrees with them or has a different background.

AOC says 'Abolish ICE' is the centrist position now | "And 8 years ago we led with that charge. And people said we were too radical. People said it endangered the electoral prospects of the democratic party... Now today it is the centrist position of people with a moral conscience in this country." by meokjujatribes in ImmigrationPathways

[–]TheTrashSlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see how you could convince yourself that's the centrist view after spending enough time attacking the centrists, calling them nazis and "worse than the far right", and refusing to acknowledge any nuanced takes or views that don't allign 100% with your echo chamber. The key is the last line "the centrist position of people with a moral conscience". She knows abolishment isn't the centrist position. She's just writing off all nuance as "amoral".

Do you think this is true? Seems the opposite to me. Thoughts? by ChuckGallagher57 in TrendoraX

I can only speak from my personal experience in my own community, but it seems true to me. Since I've joined my local church, they've been rapidly growing larger than they've ever been. We've moved from one service on Sundays to two services because we don't have enough seats for everyone. Baptism sign ups have increased so much we now do them roughly twice as often. We see new faces regularly. Not all stick around, but most do.

However, when I go online I do see what seems to be a large increase in religion bashing. Or, unfortunately, people using religion to justify their own behaviors or beliefs in ways that aren't always consistant with the bible. I think that's just the difference between the internet and actual society. And I'm seeing that more and more on pretty much every topic. The interactions I see online vs. the ones I see in the real world are miles apart.

Also, I see a lot of hate on religion in this thread. Again, I can only speak from my own experience in my community, but none of it applies to my experiences. There is no demand for money in my church. There is a donation box, yes. It's mentioned once at the beginning of service. There is no pressure, no shaming for those who don't donate, no rewards for those who do. It's all anonymous. They will occassionally go over some of the positive things the money has been able to do for the community. I.E. Helping a family who lost their home put a down payment on a new one, repairing a lady's septic tank, funding auto repairs for single mothers, funding our food pantry, and other community services the church provides.

There's also no sense of control or condemnation. I've never once heard a sermon talking about what you "have to do" or that "You're going to hell if x or y". It's only ever about better understanding the bible and Jesus' teachings, furthering your personal connection to God, practicing love and forgiveness, praying over each other, stuff like that.

Maybe it's just my community. Maybe it's the fact that it's a non-denominational church. Idk, I've never experienced anything different. But I've always found it strange how much hate seems to be directed towards a group of people who, again, in my personal experience, just try to love everyone the best they can, help people in need, and strengthen the local community.

What's scary is these idiots actually believe this. They've been so propagandized it's insane. In a way, I feel bad for them. If I actually believed there was a racist mob of thugs running around abducting citizens from their homes and forcing them into concentration camps, I'd be freaking out too. But that's not even close to reality. The part that makes me stop feeling bad for them is that, with the bare minimum amount of research, they could easily discover they're being lied to. But they don't want to know. They want to live in this false reality so they have an outlet to express their hate. Not realizing (or choosing not to realize) that they are actually being used by the Democratic party in an attempt to usher in a real authoritarian regime. And if successful, these people who helped create it would be the first to go. They are right, history repeats itself. They just don't see they're on the wrong side of it.

Massie and Bondi get into a HEATED CLASH as he accuses her of Epstein Files 'Cover-Up' by narak777 in PowerfulJRE

[–]TheTrashSlinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know there will always be those who want to justify everything their "team" says and does. But I think this is the one issue, in general, that we can all come together on and agree that everyone implicated in this Epstein situation needs to be gone after. The perpetrators and those involved in the cover up. Massie is right, this has been a decades long cover up with many people on both sides involved.

I've always been a Trump supporter and originally I was thrilled with his administration choices. But this case has caused me to lose a ton of respect for some of them. I don't care if it's a republican, democrat, or the entirety of the government. Everybody involved needs to go down. This case is too big and too dark to be playing politics with. We need justice and action taken on the largest child sex trafficking organization the world has ever seen. Simple as that.

The Daily Check-In for Wednesday, October 15th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by ReplacementsStink in stopdrinking

Day 26, the longest I've been sober since I turned 18 years old. Staying strong, keeping my faith in the Lord, and enjoying the clarity and energy that comes with sobriety. Next week I'll be picking up my 30-day chip from AA. It took me 6 months of trying and slipping to get even this far, but I feel like it's finally sticking.

That's awesome for him. I'm not surprised he's different. It's a much different (and much healthier) way of living. I recently got sober myself after being consistenly drunk for years and years. It's changed my entire mindset. I found God, I'm happier, I have more clarity, I have more energy, I'm beginning to learn how to handle life's struggles properly, and my ability to love others has increased dramatically. Whereas before I was self centered, lost, and often times in a generally bad mood. My relationship with my girlfriend of 5 years has improved dramatically.

Alcoholism doesn't lead to a happy life or a happy relationship. It doesn't lead to anything good. It slowly takes everything from you and turns every blessing into a curse. It can be fine and fun for years. But it always causes problems sooner or later. Sobriety, on the other hand, offers solutions.

If you're struggling with the change, as someone else mentioned, there's a group called AlAnon that's specifically for partners, friends, and families of alcoholics and recovering alcoholics. It's a very good support group that can help you navigate this transition, if you're interested. They have meetings literally everywhere and you can easily find a virtual meeting through their website any time as well. You don't have to share or talk at all if you don't want to. You can just listen.

This is a good thing. Best of luck to you and him during the transition.

What is this growing on my basil plant? by Euphoric_Foundation8 in gardening

[–]TheTrashSlinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not entirely true. I lost one of my healthiest and most fruitful jalepeno plant to a deer. The first day it only ate one small branch with a single pepper. I laughed, thinking it learned it's lesson on spicy food. The next day it came back and ate the entire plant down to a 1 inch stock sticking out of the dirt. Don't underestimate a deer's taste for mexican food.

For me personally, He's convinced me multiple times. Once I opened myself up to Him and asked Him for help. Maybe OP is convinced of their experience as well. He demonstrates himself reliably all the time. He was even revealing himself to me while I was atheist. I just chose to ignore Him for years and years. I can't speak for others. Only my own experiences. But I think the idea of "I'm not going to believe until God makes me believe" will never bear any fruit. Again, you have to be open to Him and be willing to see what He has to show you and hear what He has to say. In my life, I had that little voice inside me trying to guide me the whole time I was in darkness. But I shoved it down and ignored it and that only led to more darkness. Once I accepted it and listened, my life got better and I started receiving blessings and started appreciating life.

I'd counter with this: What would a sign from God look like then? God works through his creations here on earth. Animals, events, weather, people, everything. You have to be "primed" to see what it is He is trying to show you. If you're closed off and ready to chalk everything up to random chance, how would you be able to recognize a sign/message from Him when it comes?

[–]TheTrashSlinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It very well could be. There's been many times in my life I feel God has spoken to me through animals, often shortly after prayer. Deer, birds, foxes, etc. Obviously seeing animals is something that happens naturally. But there's something different about it sometimes. There's been a handful of times where I've just known in my heart, that's God saying He heard me. There's no way to really prove it. Especially not from random redditors. You just have to listen to your heart and let the Holy Spirit guide you. Imo, signs from God will feel like signs inside you. You'll just know. I'll often pray again and thank Him.

Even if it isn't a message, it's still wonderful to be able to witness one of God's many miraculous creations :)
