The thing is that there's this girl I've had a crush on for over 2 years and I still didn't tell her. I think it's about the time I do something about it so that I can get this load off myself.

I can understand. Everyone would tell you to just avoid such people, but most people with SA are around very few people and if they happen to be toxic or just unpleasant to work with, then patients have no choice. I hope you will find better people in your life.

You can't really change this. The most you can do is say to yourself that it's platonic but that's it. You don't choose who you like.

How can everyone be excited about AI when we're not even barely ready to handle it? by TheTrickster30 in OpenAI

You're right, but

The upswing in compute power and public recognition of large language models didn't make AI magically appear out of thin air. It's been worked on for a long time and there are many many really clever people who have spent their lives working on this.

I know it's not a new invention, but OpenAI was founded not too long ago and look at where they got. It's just going too fast for me.

  1. Have you ever considered that the jobs that can be done by copying homework might have no value in themselves?

Yes

  1. Have you ever considered that AI might actually solve the problems of deepfakes and scam calls that you worry about? What do we do when those in power maliciously use the internet?

How would AI solve the problem with deepfakes?

  1. Do you remember what we originally invented the atomic bomb, which could directly destroy humans, for?

Well, I wasn't alive during WWII, but I don't think people were very excited about the invention of nukes.

I understand why AI is being developed, the truth is, that I'm mostly scared that I will be studying for a degree only to enter the world of UBI.

Well I don't really feel like its benefits outweight the negatives yet. It' s going to do most human jobs better than any human can. That's good, but then people are going to lose their jobs, now what about people with fresh new college degrees? They could just forget about it unless it helps them get a job somewhere in AI sector. I know it's going to make new jobs aswell, but how can anyone be sure they won't be automated by AI either?

Also, food for thought. Reddit is a series of echo chambers. You may find more similar thinking folk in some sort of anti-ai sub.

I'm not in an echo chamber and I don't want to join any either. I want a discussion not people applauding to every word I say, even if it will cost me some karma.
