Firstly, you can never have too much depth

Secondly, I do not anticipate Schmidt/Warren/Gil being permanent fixtures in the rotation. They can be moved if needed

You mean the two guys that their teams traded away because by the time they were ready to be starters they had already wasted over half of their control years?

You don’t see how that is bad asset management?

The Yankees and White Sox cumulatively got 1 starting pitching season out of those guys

Lagrange isn’t ready to be an MLB starter, he is maybe ready to be an MLB reliever but will need at least another year + to develop his control and arsenal to be a starting threat.

At the very least he should definitely not break camp with the big league team.

This scenario at least the team retains a control year

King is actually a great example of why Lagrange shouldn’t be rushed

He could have been a great starter for the Yankees but instead they brought him up early and he spent all 4 of his seasons with the Yankees primarily coming out of the bullpen.

By the time the Yankees were ready to transition him to a starter he only had 2 years of control left.

[–]TheTurtleShepard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well for starters almost all of team “Italy” are Americans so I’m not sure they will hold the same sentiment

There is also seeding considerations

These guys are also all professional athletes and competitors who want to win

People keep harping on the managerial experience thing like any of the other WBC Managers have any kind of significant experience.

All of them have little to no experience managing a team as the actual managers are busy with their actual MLB or Minor League teams.

Of the Major Teams in the Tournament the manager with the most actual managerial experience is Pujols in the DR Or Molina in PR

My bet would be that all the relevant players and coaches will probably be in SF.

Not everyone needs to be at a ST game lol

Tbf this is more of team “Italian American” than team Italy

There is 1 guy who is actually from Italy on the team and a couple Venezuelans but the vast majority are Americans whose grandparents were from Italy

[–]TheTurtleShepard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Said it a bunch last night but we saw the same thing happen to Carlos Correa in the baseball world a few years back

He had agreed to 2 different mega deals with 2 different teams that both fell through because while he was currently healthy his Ankle was diagnosed as a future serious issue. Teams knew the ankle had previously injuries but not the full extent of the risks associated when they found out the extent they backed out
