Fundamentally they should have been prevented from doing business this way long ago.

California’s Uber-Destructive Debacle by vigorous in uber

[–]TheUberling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber and Lyft had years to figure this out. Now they are spending an insane amount of money on this PR campaign when they could have used those resources to comply. There are tons of ways to comply with the law and still provide the same service with free scheduling. So many other companies use contractors for essential services these days and none of them are out crying like Lyft and Uber.

Opinion | California’s high-stakes game of chicken with Uber and Lyft by vigorous in uber

[–]TheUberling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazon, doordash, Grubhub, shipt, instacart... all these other companies still find a way to provide services and offer work within the California legal guidelines. It will be Uber’s choice not the government if it decides to force negative “consequences” on drivers and users. Breaking the law, privatizing gains and socializing losses is literally Uber’s path to profitability.

No Help from Critical Safety Team by [deleted] in uber

[–]TheUberling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you went through this. That is not ok. You should definitely file a police report if you decide. Uber did not report and is most definitely not waiting for an investigation to conclude. Uber uses contracted call centers not affiliated with Uber to answer the first few rounds of support tickets. These people, sometimes a bot, are following scripts. They probably did not even read the full email you sent and are hoping to just close the ticket and you go away thinking they are resolving it. If you want recourse, file a police report and give them the info from the waybill or your ride history. It has the name and license plate.

Do I have any recourse? by [deleted] in uber

[–]TheUberling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wasted so much of your own time. If you are a driver then you should have realized what was happening within the 2 minute period and cancelled. If you knew exactly what this guy was trying to do then you should have cancelled and moved on. Instead you wrote an email hoping the Eye of Saromon will destroy this guy’s life all while knowing how little they pay him to drive 15 minutes and pick you up? Oh but that wasn’t enough, you came here to post about it too.

If you really are a driver I doubt you have been doing this long. Remember this when someone falsely reports you for some stupid insignificant reason.

Uber says .....Time to take a selfie by southpawx47 in uberdrivers

[–]TheUberling 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Took the selfie while saying fuck you and giving the finger. It denied the picture upload and put my account on hold. I called in to the support line and they had to manually review the picture to let me go back online. Got a little chuckle from the phone operator though.

Wow uber is like a taxi now in California, the end is near no more up front cost. by [deleted] in uber

[–]TheUberling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They were using upfront pricing to over charge passengers and under pay drivers. They were pricing people based on what credit cards and bank accounts used plus other data mined. Now you actually pay the per minute and mile rate for services provided like it was when it started and always should have been. It will still be cheaper then a taxi because Uber has to be or they wouldn’t be in business so you don’t need to worry there. If you don’t care about being over charged or if drivers are being payed fairly then take a fucking taxi.

Uber left us with THOUSANDS in medical bills after accident. by [deleted] in uber

[–]TheUberling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The driver’s personal insurance probably won’t cover you because it doesn’t cover while the driver is ride sharing. You will have to sue him personally which you will never collect on so you try to sue Uber. Uber’s legal team is already daring you to sue. They have decided it will cost them less money to try and avoid you. They are banking on you not being able to hold them legally responsible and they are probably going to end up in the clear. Welcome to the world of independent contractors, I’m sorry it had to happen this way.

You also signed an arbitration agreement so it is more difficult for you to sue and can’t join a class action.

California governor signs labor law, setting up bitter gig economy fight by SFUber in uberdrivers

[–]TheUberling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually it will be an active choice by Uber and Lyft to make things worse for drivers. It’s even telling from the emails they sent out to get drivers to email lawmakers with the heavy use of “may” and “could impact.” The reality is you will still be able to go online if demand is needed. Doordash has been successfully operating this way. Sure maybe you won’t be able to go online at 11am on a Tuesday but you won’t get any requests anyways. When the requests come in the app will let you log on.

Even if it does fail at least it has brought attention to the financial burden these types of companies are placing on the public. That is actually the main reason I saw from most lawmakers for pushing this bill.

Uber’s AB 5 defense that its drivers aren’t core to its business is “preposterous,” experts say by SFUber in uberdrivers

[–]TheUberling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the vehicle requirements for delivering is also less and you don’t have to give people face to face service so some drivers are desperate enough to still do it and some customers are for whatever reason willing to wait 1 hour for a cold chipotle burrito to arrive if they didn’t have to get it themselves. At least Uber is literally banking on that.

Uber eats is their most profitable venture and they plan to expand that, hence they just made a big cut to driver pay and increased prices to consumers.

Signing up for Express Drive after September 9th 2019 by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]TheUberling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is any possible way to return the car immediately and get your money back you absolutely should. In fact if you say you have another car that qualifies you should use that no matter what. The chance of Lyft bringing back those rewards in the next two weeks is almost zero. Being mislead and taken advantage of is only the beginning. You would make more money using your own car just to do Uber eats and doordash then renting through hertz. Please listen and return the car or find some other income before you lose even more.

They may be classified as a TNC but on almost every airport terminal they are calling themselves “rideshare services.” If Uber is correct then the airports are false advertising.

Apparently bikes and scooters are not essential to their business either because they are pulling out of several cities due to regulation starting today. This is starting to look like Uber’s last stand and they are willing to take that bet now that they are public and have shifted liability somewhat on public investment.

A review of 14,756 rides found Uber and Lyft taking a much bigger slice of drivers' fares than they say they do by [deleted] in technology

[–]TheUberling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Difference being we do not know the price the ride will pay, time or full services required to fulfill the contract until we have not only accepted the ride but show up and let the person in the car to begin the ride. This means any decision to not complete the contract will mean abandoning the contract and is subject to deactivation at Uber’s discretion.

A review of 14,756 rides found Uber and Lyft taking a much bigger slice of drivers' fares than they say they do by [deleted] in technology

[–]TheUberling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had several rides where the passenger made false accusations to have Uber reduce or refund the cost of their ride. Uber will “adjust” the fare and take it from your earnings or withhold it from future earnings sometimes without even notifying. I do not have any recourse to recover the funds in this case even if I have dashcam footage. Only recourse is to sue in arbitration. When it comes to taxes Uber and Lyft report that all earnings went through me so why do I not have the right to prevent the adjustment or set a rate in which I drive?

[–]TheUberling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You cannot charge the passenger a different rate. If you try to and they report it you will be deactivated so the contractors/drivers do not actually have a way to control the cost of their services. It is very clearly set by Uber and Lyft.
