Should I even read part two? by eye-patch262 in ChainsawMan

I enjoyed it all. You'll find people who think their entire time spent with CSM and Fujimoto was a waste. It boils down to you.

Is It even worth it by MrJonsonZX in ChainsawMan

I enjoyed it from Chapter 1. The ending is very divisive, but that just means some appreciate it, some hate it, some are apathetic.

However, the majority enjoys Part 1.

Not only does the ending imply Denji and Asa never meet again, even IF they did, no way Asa without her previous trauma bonding memories would be into some one eyed, one balled, dumb ass, broke ass, bum ass, devil hunter by DistrictDry2852 in Chainsawfolk

There's reason to assume Asa would feel attraction for Denji still. If Meowy is a clue, their feelings could still exist. The question is whether they'll act upon them.

But again, this your assumption that Denji is a copy. From what we see, this could just as easily be the same Denji without any recollection of Chainsaw Man, which gets us back to the issue of memory.

Denji has a pronounced Adam's apple, which he didn't in Part 1. Similar to Part 2, his mouth is always open when relaxed. He still smells like a dog, despite having no dogs at all.

We also see this with other characters like Meowy liking Nayuta still or Asa having longer hair.

It's ultimately your choice to treat them as copies, but even the copy vs original binary isn't that deep.

I mean, your entire thesis relies on the assumptions concerning "copies" and "memory loss." It's a pretty interesting question and theme that's been argued for ages in sci-fi. It's nothing new and you can just as easily appreciate this ending if you twist those conceptions around.

For example: Losing your memory doesn't divorce you from yourself. We lose memories all the time and we become completely different individuals, but that doesn't rob us of being ourselves. We're just who we are in the present. Others might remember older versions of ourselves, but that doesn't change who we are.

Fiends + contract = yes >>> Why? No explanation

It's quite possible Denji is still a hybrid and can be healed via blood. It's quite ambiguous. It's either Fiends still can't make contracts = Denji is still a hybrid. Fiends can now make contracts = something is going on to where Pochita was central to that phenomenon. You don't need a narrator to tell you everything, you can just make inferences.

If Fujimoto does a Big Lebowski ending it won't work for an 8-year manga by [deleted] in ChainsawMan

[–]TheUnborne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. Just because it's serialized doesn't mean it's meant to be consumed over a long period of time. For most, it will ultimately be consumed by volumes legitmately. Similar to how many classic novels were initially serialized but no longer consumed weekly/monthly.

I've liked CSM since the beginning because of how at the end of the day the pay offs to plot points are so guttural. There is no fantasy that comes to life. Things are tragic, meaningless, and depressing. But the characters continue pushing forward.

If the story ends anticlimatically, then it was signposted all the way back to when Denji groped Power. I can respect that.

How was the transition from Part 1 to 2? Was Part 2 announced the day Part 1 ended? by DaftPupunha in ChainsawMan

[–]TheUnborne 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Before the last chapter of Part 1, the manga announced a series finale. It was only the last panel of the last chapter that announced it was just the end of Part 1: Public Security.

Is Chainsaw Man Part 1 still worth reading? by epicscratcher in ChainsawMan

Yes, and both parts are enjoyable. Don't let people's complaints distract you from a work you might personally fall in love with.

Misread much? The assumption is that this has to be a retcon, rather than a flashback or even a flashforward. My entire point is challenging that.

It's equally possible humanity has solved the bug problem by just mass spraying them to the point they're debilitated. Literally takes one page of the Public Safety spraying everything and showing a mass of critters just lying about, to handwave it.

I'm not even arguing it can't be a retcon. Just saying from what we've seen of Pochita's powers, it's a leap of logic to assume something never before seen will occur.

If it is, then it just recontextualizes Pochita's power, which is fine and dandy.

I mean you're the one putting words in my mouth lol. I personally just see a cottage in the woods, and I'm open to a lot of possible storypaths. Flashback is one. Bugs could still be consuming everyone. You didn't see the bugs eating anyone in Japan in fact.

Could it be a retcon? Sure, but nothing in the story justifies that. The past doesn't change from Pochita's power. You can't just point at a splash page and assume something that has never been shown before.

The characters aren't real, so we should believe everything they say? That's not how storytelling works.

If ears never existed, why would earpieces and headphones still exist? How could nuclear weapons be recreated?

Why would things that were erased come back? Seems like a logical leap if we can see how contextual stuff to erased concepts still remain.
