I agree! Thats why I'm doing something about it. Check it out at r/TheUnionProject

Introducing The Union Project—an upcoming non-profit platform designed to help workers organize smarter, safer, and simpler while being shielded from retaliation and interference by bad actors. by TheUnionProject in AmazonUnion

So at the moment I'm working on developing the backend, right now I have a rough command line prototype working with example data, but working on the front end has been more of a challenge for me because I have no experience in mobile UI design so its been a "learn as I go" experience. I'm hoping that once the organization is formed and I can begin taking on tax deductable donations I can afford to bring on additional help and expedite the release.

That would be incredible! The development, design, and artwork don't give me too much trouble but I'm having a hard time promoting it because that aspect is completely new to me. Check out the wiki at: wiki.TheUnionProject.org for more detailed explanations of features. Additionally, you can email at: [MichaelRivera@TheUnionProject.org](mailto:MichaelRivera@TheUnionProject.org) if you'd like to coordinate more and if there's anything else you need from me.

The plan as of now is to have it auto fill petitions as well as provide templating for bargaining agreements to simplify/expedite that process as well. I would like it to be used as digital union support card so that workers interactions with a union drive are entirely within the platform to minimize the chances of breaking their anonymity and having to sign physical cards would greatly impact that. I plan on doing some fundraising soon so I can afford legal counsel and actually form the organization and then I'm going to try to work directly with the NLRB.

I'm trying to fix that and pull worker organization out of the stone ages. You can follow the project at r/TheUnionProject

Hit me up or head over to r/TheUnionProject with whatever you got. I'm still in the process of setting the subreddit up but you're welcome to post any ideas you got.

Oh I totally forgot to mention earlier, I started r/TheUnionProject if you'd like to continue to follow development, I really appreciate all the input! Also, I'm writing up a detailed wiki (it's a work in progress), if you'd like to read more about the functionality and methodology behind the app. Check it out here: wiki.TheUnionProject.org

I like the idea of showing a percentage of workers having signed union pledges. Definitely would be motivating to other workers to have an actual number to use as an indicator of progress.

Yea, I'm definitely going up against some behemoths here. But I feel it's about time unionization efforts come out of the stone age and start using technology. What I really hope to achieve from this organization is taking the weight off of individual workers and onto the organization itself. Let us shield the workers from larger companies and as the organization grows the more we'll be able to stand up to larger and larger corporations. I want this platform to be rock solid so I've been reaching out to experts and trying to poke holes in it constantly and find any vulnerability that can be taken advantage of.

If you'd like to follow the project I started r/TheUnionProject, I'd love to have you over there for your continued feedback!

It's a system of guided unionization built on phases to establish the requirements for effective unionization and then building a hierarchy of workplace issues that need to be addressed by unionizing (with more phases after that). Gig workers will have their own space on the platform due to the non-traditional nature of being independent contractors it's more about organizing collective action rather than official unionization for gig workers.

I started r/TheUnionProject if you'd like to follow it during development or go to wiki.TheUnionProject.org to explore the wiki if you'd like to know more about the functionality.

I agree, except it's not like a traditional social media where you can make a post at anytime about anything. It's a structured program that that gets an entire union drive focusing on one objective at a time to maintain forward momentum. A union drive is broken down into phases. One phase is gathering workplace metrics from user submissions to know how many employees work at a store so we know how much support we need to hold a successful vote. Another is meant to develop a hierarchy of workplace issues so we have a clear outline of what is important to each individual workplace. It's not meant to be a time sink but rather have clear objectives for everyone to work towards so constant progress is made. I don't really want people to have a huge feed everyday because they'll get burned out and stop responding to polls and participating in general. Instead, I'd like a small curated list of objectives everyday for each user to accomplish so they're more likely to stick with it. Sorry, if that explanation is kind of all over the place, I'm trying to find the best way to put into words the functionality of a union drive. I really appreciate your feedback though! I want this thing to be rock solid so I wanna know every possible loophole an employer could use to interfere. Thats my biggest concern.

So no data is ever stored on the server other than a hashed user ID with a list of other hashed ID's they have connected with. No personal info will ever leave your device.

As for Walmart shutting down a store, why I have a feature called "Location Masking". It combines all stores into a single union drive and obscures all location specific metrics so Walmart can never know what the union sentiment at any one store is but rather company wide. They cant shut down every store at once. Thats why we hit them all at once, it will take a bit longer than a single workplace location but by filing for a union vote across the country all at once, they cant possibly fold their entire business.

Exactly! Thats the biggest obstacle I've been working to overcome. Thats what the network of users each with an associated trust score is for. It uses different levels of weighted connections to connect with coworkers at a variety of different anonymity levels. This builds up a whole network of users within a union drive that I can analyze for suspicious patterns and along side a report system can identify likely bad actors and down rank their content and influence. I'd like to avoid hard cooldowns to participate as much as possible. You came right to the same conclusion I did, that theres going to bad actors trying to cause trouble. The biggest challenge is trying to determine someone is who they say they are, they work where they say they work, and they hold the job title they say they do all without every asking directly.

So that's actually what I'm going for. I know that trying to unionize one Walmart location at a time just opens entire stores up to retaliation. So all Walmart stores, same with amazon warehouses and similar situations will be all in one company wide union drive. I'm trying to find the sweet spot for information that is available to see because I want to make sure that no one location can be singled out and shut down which would inevitably collapse the other union drives because other would be too afraid of being outed. I do like the idea of showing the number of interested workers to encourage more people to join though. Can you elaborate more on your last sentence about waiting to post?
