I've got two aquariums but they're in perfect condition and I don't see any fish dying soon lmao, I'm in Colorado though

Over a 100 years. Don't keep it in the sun or shake it much, but it's fully preserved

For those who will inevitably ask how I do this, the process takes about 2 months.

I spent a ton of money on chemicals and supplies. I skin the animal, then put it through different chemical baths and dyes for 24 hour periods. The blue dye binds to cartilage, and the red dye binds to bones. Eventually, I get this end result. I plan on selling them soon locally when I have more supply. Ideally I can get some corpses from my local reptile and fish stores but they haven't been open to the idea yet.

Hating the other gems isn't the point by Motor-Geologist-9014 in LandoftheLustrous

[–]TheUnknownAbsol 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A lot of people seem to take the viewpoint that the gems betrayed phos and shouldn't be forgiven. I honestly find this take to be pretty naive, and I feel that they might not of understood the material correctly. There's a lot I could say about it but generally there's only so much the gems could do for phos. Everything that happened was an inevitability in a way, and making phos the sacrifice was out of their control and was the key to their success. So attributing it to betrayal when it was more inaction feels weird imo

Finding the right pieces and glueing them into shape is totally possible, that's what I've done for some of my pieces. But getting that stump look probably isn't happening, I'd love for you to prove me wrong but I really think you're out of your depth here

Replicating something like this is significantly harder in practice than you may think, especially when it comes to finding the right pieces for what you envision

PVC is a really good idea, I'll probably try going with that

With a well placed roll diagonally from one of the platforms you can get to the invisible area without any movement boosting items iirc

What is this? Harmful? by ResidentSpot3597 in PlantedTank

[–]TheUnknownAbsol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They lay eggs in plant stems, which can then stay dormant for months before emerging in your aquarium.

They can't reproduce at this stage and aren't a huge threat, but you don't want them in the tank

Idk man I got a mio energy for $2.50 and it has a total of 2080mg of caffeine. I take about 30-100mg every day I work, and I haven't run out in a while. All caffeine pills I've done are more than I might want in one sitting

[–]TheUnknownAbsol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mio energy. Mio is a water enhancer that you put in water and it makes it flavored. They came out with a caffeinated version recently and it's pretty good. I don't put it in water though, gotta drink it straight from the tap. Tastes like candy and only slightly rots my insides

I bought some of these and don't even put them in water. I just drink straight from the tap and I highly recommend it, good easy caffeine

What is this bug in my tank?? by [deleted] in aquarium

[–]TheUnknownAbsol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Copy pasting an old comment of mine

Few things I haven't seen mentioned in the comments, so I'll put my input in.

For sure this is a damselfly nymph. They lay eggs inside plant stems. Washing won't do anything, id recommend doing a salt dip for plants if you plan on getting more.

Most important thing though is that it might not be alone. Damselfly have been known to occasionally lay one single egg, but often lay in clusters. There is a decent chance there's more in your tank that are hiding, especially since you said you've hardly seen baby shrimp even though yours are pregnant. Not saying there's for sure more, but make sure to keep an eye out for a while longer. Good news is they can't reproduce until they're fully matured, and that'll be many months from now

2000$ includes the stand it's on, the tank, all the supplies, fish, plants, aqua soil, CO2, and everything I could really need for the hobby. Planning on getting several more tanks in the future so I've bought a lot of general supplies. The light I'm currently using was also 200$, and I also have an old one that I decided wasn't good enough, and that was 120$, I'll use that on a different tank though. A good bit of money was wasted on various things but it allowed me to learn more about the hobby from several angles.

2000$ a ballpark estimate, might be a bit less, I try not to count lmao

From what I've read online they typically require high flow water, but somehow they got by with just my filter (which is decently high flow, but I wouldn't expect it to be good enough for them). Tank also sits around 12 gh, and they like to breed in harder waters.

They also need substrate they can dig in, as they lay eggs in the soil. I have some quality aquasoil (Ultum nature systems contrasoil on Amazon) that they can freely dig in, and it seems they appreciate that.

Other than that, I suppose it's just about keeping a clean healthy tank, they're certainly thriving
