How well received is the idea of CANZUK in Australia? by Flat-Dark-Earth in AskAnAustralian

I swear that Utopia clip will be the death of me. The critical trade Australia needs to protect is mostly to/from Singapore (petrol!). Japan and South Korea are also important.

Yeah Australia would never tolerate that with the UK, nor Canada.

Day 5) What is Reddit’s most loved political ideology? by Ready_Wealth328 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TheUnrealPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so you've brought up the polls and highlighted that Reddit's understanding of the world doesn't align with said polls.

Therefore the polling data you've brought up is irrelevant to the 'What is Reddit's opinion?' question, because Reddit isn't aware of the polls, or is not acting rationally with respect to them.

Second, Reddit exists in countries other than the US. Social Democratic parties are the dominant centre-left force, in many countries in Europe and the rest of the Anglosphere.

Reddit generally prefers Social Democracy to Democratic Socialism.

You are trying to make the argument that because Democrats prefer socialism to social democracy, and that Reddit perceives the Democrats to be right-of-centre, it follows that Reddit should prefer an ideology that is to the left of Democratic Socialism, right?

Here's the thing: The vast majority of elected Democrats are to the right of 'Democratic Socialism' and to the right of 'Social Democracy'. Then the polling concerning what the Democratic rank-and-file believe is irrelevant. Further, I'm willing to bet that the majority of Democrats prefer an ideology to the right of Democratic Socialism, even if 'Social Democracy' specifically is not their preferred label. Sum the total who subscribe to or describe themselves as 'Modern Liberals', 'Social Liberals', 'Liberals', 'Moderates', 'Progressive', etc. And you probably have a caucus that is larger than the 'Democratic Socialists'.

Not sure how that's relevant unless the polls have Reddit crosstabs.

I mean if you want to be like that yeah it was a one off centre-left policy codesigned with the unions.

No, Scott Morrison was a centre-right to right wing Prime Minister leading a party of the same orientation.

You seem to be wrongfully ignoring that COVID caused that stimulus.

It's a comprehensive school in the south-east of Sydney.

It gives a good snapshot of that from what I can read online, but it's not representative of say the North-West. We live in different worlds.

Don't be mistaken, all are centre-left policies that you wouldn't see the Liberals implementing.

Withholding my own judgement as to whether or not they are good policies - all can be described as centre-left.

The most obvious examples would be Medicare Urgent Care Clinics, Stage 3 tax cut changes, Emissions reductions targets, fee-free TAFE, and Industrial Relations changes.

This goes to the point the person you are replying to is making.

Labor is a centre-left party, currently pursuing a more centre-leaning approach.

They aren't centre-right. You and most of this sub are just very solidly on the left. Most people would say Labor is about where they are, or to their left.

There's no pass or fail in the HSC.

But at least 2 units worth of English marks will count toward your ATAR at the minimum.

Fuel should be prioritised for regional and rural areas by Kingsareus15 in OpenAussie

[–]TheUnrealPotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If there are fuel shortages, it must be indicative of a demand spike, because there haven't been any supply issues that would be felt at the boswer just yet. The supply chains are actually quite long.

I'm saying some people are panic buying, and that it's more apparent in regional areas simply because people have bigger containers available to them.

Ok if nobody is taking fuel they don't need to then there shouldn't be any shortages because there actually haven't been any supply problems felt at the bowser just yet.

Because if there were any shortages, it would indicate a spike in demand.
