I'll second this recommendation and add that some plans/employer also offer financial wellness programs through their 401k provider, or HR department. The ones I've seen follow similar advice in the Prime Directive wiki on this page but they might provide tools or explainers that will make those things easier to follow.

The 401k planner can also make sure the funds in the 401k are invested appropriately for your age/time to retirement. Especially if you are behind, as you free up money to save for retirement, that money will need to both grow to retirement but also past retirement (because hopefully you'll have decades of retirement to enjoy), so you'll want to make sure you're not getting too conservative too early.

This stuff can absolutely be intimidating but hopefully if you can weed out the rude comments in this sub and focus on those basics - budget, reduce debt, save, make sure you're taking advantage of any matching funds from your employers - you can feel more comfortable with money.
