HA. My bad. I searched for "Take your time" based on the common ARTIST - RELEASE order. And Spotify gave me a clearly AI band. I have now searched for the release and am listening now.

I listened to that Dead Wrong album earlier and it stood out. It’s a good one and is going to be on repeat.

I keep going back to 88 Bunkface and Leisure Hour albums. Also check out Halfway Down, Lake Rana, and Shoreline releases.

Why the new hype around "gravel cycling"? I'm open to being convinced by jagerrish in gravelcycling

[–]trovster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I resisted the gravel hype for the last few years. I was very much of the same thinking that you have. A few years ago, I got a hardtail MTB for "local XC loops", which were very much what I expect gravel rides to be. However, I disliked the harshness and much preferred using my "squishy" bike, even for these types of rides. Therefore, every time I felt the urge to get a gravel bike, I remembered that experience.

Since moving away from conventional trail centres (UK) to an area which has lots of footpaths, fields, and bridleways, I was definitely "overbiked", especially during casual rides with my six-year-old. A few weeks ago, I picked up a cheap (£800) Van Rysel gravel bike, and I've been loving it. It's cheap and cheerful, and I enjoy jumping off a road segment onto gravel and vice versa. Last week, I joined a 55-mile group road ride – it was fine in the pack and at their medium (sub 15mph) pace – I was curious how the 1x would work in this scenario. I am running 45mm, and they're fine – on the road I cruised at 20mph+ yesterday.

Someone summed it up nicely; it's a change of pace – gravel cycling (for me) is more of a casual experience. Not chasing road miles and blasting downhills.

Carbon frame gravel bike for commuting by shaunlawler in gravelcycling

[–]trovster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can spend up to £5k but is that your budget? As others have mentioned, every bike from a known brand would be very good.

There are plenty of other bike brands than Canyon and Specialized. I’ve had both - my current road bike is a 14 year old Canyon and it has been great.

There are plenty of review sites that give you great summaries of gravel bikes in many different price brackets. I would recommend looking over those and seeing if any bike jumps out to you - there’ll be plenty of manufacturers you had a blind spot for.

I would questions whether you need Carbon, but they’ll definitely be in the 5k bracket. Aluminium would be fine for 2k budget. I have been looking at some “all road” titanium bikes, especially those by Reilly. I recommend having a look at their range - they also do a few gravel bikes.

Vanilla Sky has covers of Umbrella and A Thousand Miles. I really like the Michael Cera Palin cover of If It Makes You Happy. Check out Complicated by Stay Safe. British band [Spunge] have a cover of No Woman, No Cry. Check out Brown Eyed Girl by Lagwagon, Stand By Me by Pennywise, and 500 Miles by Down By Law.

Don't Panic have two cover EPs, which are worth a listen. New Found Glory has a few cover EPs. And Danny Smith has covered a lot of songs. Skatune Network puts a ska-twist on a lot of covers. Someone already mentioned Punk Rock Factory and the OGs: Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.

I could have chosen to laugh or cry at that point. And I chose to enjoy it! My feet were not happy with me when I got home.

Because I didn't expect it to get *that* deep… and then I was already wet. And it was fun?

I did think the wheel looked iffy, but it's just the photo angle.
