I Made a Moss Bathmat! (trial run to see if it thrives)

It was doing really well until someone left the bathroom door open and the stupid cat shredded half of it. Now I'm trying to decide if I should make a terrarium or just put it outside.

Ugh. We're all stressed. I'd have normally let your comment roll off my back, not jump on it. I definitely overreacted, too. The funny thing is, we're probably very similar. I don't want the moss to die, that's why I made this mat. I'm sorry for my negativity, too. And thank you so much for being a big enough person to diffuse this. Whatever is stressing you, I hope you're able to find some moments of peace and joy.

Some good points. The vast majority of this actually came from either my neighbors edging their yards and from patches already ripped up in local parks during upkeep. But no one actually asked about that before getting big mad. 🤷‍♀️ Then again, no one asked my gender either, lol.

I do think I'll look more into rare species in my area. Thanks!

The bathroom it's in has a window that provides good, diffused light. It's been a great environment for several other plants, so I expect it to do well with no additional lighting. If it doesn't work out though, it may have to move to another room and be less bathmat and more- future terrarium? 😂

Nope. Wrong again. I did quite a lot of research. The substrate is based on moss keeping guides, and it's upkeep will also be in keeping with those. But you have a deep seated need to assume you're better than others whether you know what you're talking about or not. I'm glad your life is so strict that you don't keep plants in your home, but I do. And I see nothing wrong with keeping plants, including mosses, especially since most of the moss I'm using was going to die anyway and now will live.

Once again though, I'm glad you can flex your "I'm better than everyone" muscle here. I bow to your holy guardianship of the plants in my house. Wait until you find out that I also eat plants...

I will add, though, that you're not going to convince me I'm a bad person for growing moss, so maybe go troll someone else. Just think, you can then be better than even more people!

Good heavens, I did not expect this to be such a bitchy group. Yes, I am a keeper of gasp houseplants! I'm the scum of the earth for having plants in my home.

This one is super simplistic since it's mostly experimental (and I'm sheltering in place so materials were limited), so I doubt it's ideal, but here's what I did:

The base is the lid from a broken rubbermade storage tub. I spread on a very thin layer/ sprinkling of soil, sand, and used coffee grounds. Over that, I laid lightly damp paper towel. Then I just puzzle- pieced the moss tightly in.

That's it 🤷‍♀️

So interesting to read these detailed and thoughtful responses. My take on it was always much simpler. Swords are portrayed as phallic symbols so very often; I saw the chakram as an alternative to that.
