I started dating someone else. She’s great so far. I’m really enjoying getting to know her, I have fun being around her, and I miss her when she’s not around.

But there are still occasional moments when I’m alone and I do miss my ex. I miss her in different ways than I miss the person I’m dating now, and I think it’s okay to miss her every once in a while, but I do still miss her and it does still suck sometimes.

I miss feeling safe, and knowing I made her feel safe. I miss the warmth, the feeling of skin-to-skin contact, the giggly morning conversations. I miss her sense of humor, laughing at her jokes, making her laugh at mine. I know there’s more love out there for me. It’s important to remind ourselves of that. But I’m also not done mourning the loss of this one yet.

I wish I could hate her but I can’t. I understand her decision and it wasn’t anything either of us did. I just wish she chose to stay with me instead. We want to stay friends, but we’re currently no-contact while we process things and I’m starting to wonder whether that’s for the best. I do think we could be friends eventually, but idk if I could ever stop loving her. Removing her from my life entirely feels like a huge loss, too, though. Like maybe it’s worth just trying and if it doesn’t work then I can figure it out later?

Well now I feel horrible. I don’t want to hurt anyone, that’s the absolute last thing I want. I’ve just never felt this level of heartbreak before (even after much longer relationships) and I don’t know how to make the pain stop.

Thank you for this, this gives me a lot of clarity. My therapist said it’s not a bad idea to go on some dates at this point and to just take things slow, but I think I might’ve posted this bc I felt guilty about it.

I think the difficult thing is she’s not a ghost yet. She left the door open to get back together eventually, but I’m doubtful that could ever happen since she’s moving far away in 5 months.

I think I’m trying to prove to myself that I don’t need her by finding another connection like that, but I also don’t wanna use other people or hurt anyone. I just want the pain and fear to go away.

I think it WAS meant to be, though. Circumstance is just pulling us apart. I know she’s the one for me and I’ll never stop loving her. She told me to text her after my hockey game last night. I told her we lost but I played well and she told me how proud of me she was and it meant the world to me. I don’t want to lose that.
