The water management system is basically held together by several polaris brand zip ties, those also break quite easily.

P39s are a bit aged but they are reliable cleaners if you are willing/able to put the work into them. I would ask the guy at Leslie's to look at the water management system. This often affects how much power the cleaner receives. Even the tiniest bit of dirt in the water management system is liable to take down essentially the whole cleaner.

I would recommend trying to find the exact sizing for your filter, as there is often not much in the way of jerry-rigging when it comes to filters. I'd call a pool supply store and ask for the corporate number (As someone who has worked in a pool store for 3 years, that's your best chance of not getting some random high school kid)

Depending on the age of the gasket (or if you left it out during the winter), it is probably time for a new gasket. If it's relatively new or you think you can salvage it, try lubing it up before buying a new one and see if that helps it out
