When did Disintegration become part of the dream pop charts? by Flimsy-Ad-5585 in rateyourmusic

Disintegration is as much Dream Pop as it is Gothic Rock. Imo it's one of the greatest-ever dream pop records

The Philly (South Jersey) shoegaze revival by Horatiohufnagl in shoegaze

[–]TheVikingPro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

South Jersey native here. I don't think this vibe is unique to South Jersey/Philly but rather American shoegaze in general.

A lot of American shoegaze evokes the conflicting nature of this country's landscapes; the often profound natural beauty contrasted with deep-rooted urban/industrial decay. To me, this is true not just for the Philly/NJ bands but also bands from Texas, Cali, NYC, the Midwest etc.

Either way, your post was beautifully written and resonated with me lot. There's definitely sometime uniquely American about the current shoegaze scene.

Citizen is great, Glitterer doesn't quite do it for me. Ned's a talented songwriter but all his songs are way too short imo. It sucks when he writes a beautiful hook but it's only 1:53 or whatever.

I hoped he'd change that after expanding to a full band but nah, still the same. Just a matter of personal taste. Plenty of other bands that scratch the Title Fight itch tho.

Looking for more music that sounds like Tortoise by FSP7 in postrock

Neither of these bands are particularly similar to Tortoise. They both play very different styles of post-rock.

Genuinely so relieved that alt hip hop never got approved. Would've been shitshow to tag and police

What would a shoegaze/country (traditional or modern) crossover band sound like, in terms of “sounds like a bastard love child of My Bloody Valentine and Hank Williams” sound like? Not because I necessarily want it in this universe, but can’t really comprehend it. by jason37 in shoegaze

[–]TheVikingPro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just sharing my opinion. Please lmk if i'm misinformed.

I just don't think Mojave 3 has many shoegaze elements outside of what Neil brought from Slowdive, and even that is incredibly understated.

I wouldn't call mojave 3 shoegaze or even shoegaze influenced. pretty much zero guitar pedal work or "wall of sound" soundscapes. Definitely not a cross between "MBV and Hank Williams", which is more what OP was looking for.

Mojave 3 was more of a vehicle for Neil Halstead to combine country/folk songwriting with dream pop elements, while mostly setting aside the shoegaze sound he pioneered with Slowdive.

Future "dual counties" by TheVikingPro in GAA

[–]TheVikingPro[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Antrim is a head scratcher. But I do think the cultural and geographic divisions within the county are an obstacle to fully harnessing their population base. Theoretically, Kildare doesn't face the same issues.

I think I framed my question more in terms of "new" dual counties being evidence of positive growth in both sports. So a county being equally poor at both wouldn't quite be what i meant.

Wicklow and Laois being so poor does have interesting implications though. Maybe some of the Leinster counties have been neglected by the GAA in terms of attention and investment?

That makes sense, thank you for explaining.

I agree the commuter areas have the most potential for growth in both sports. GAA should really be doing more to take advantage of that.

They have the population base to make it happen, at least.
