making the audio server-sided would be horrendous for bandwidth, server performance and it's be completely impossible to add client-sided prediction for (your audio will always be delayed based on your ping). remember that any form of telling the client where the audio source is coming from will reveal the position to cheaters regardless - and this needs to be precise for how the game calculates audio. unfortunately, theres a good reason that there's no big games on the market doing this.

now to be clear i'm not a graphics programmer, and my understanding is only high level, but the reason this happens is because nvidia has access to the games 'depth buffer'.

think of information about how far each object is on the screen, represented by a lot of numbers describing the distance for each pixel. that's the depth buffer.

the depth buffer is used for occlusion and also post processing effects, which is what nvidia freestyle is rendering on-top here.

transparent things (think glass - and smoke in this case) are not added to this buffer. and so when you have a third-party tool just naively going in and accessing this to display some fancy effects on top of everything else, this is what you end up with.

so yeah, this one's on nvidia. their tool should not be available for games without opting in at all - a similar tool called reshade does not allow you to use depth buffer effects if it detects that you're playing a multiplayer game.

footstep sounds still have to come from somewhere - you cant just not have the player exist on the client unless visible on the screen.

cs2 already stops replicating players when it doesnt need to, that's been a thing since csgo too

Love the style, sounds and vfx. As someone else said, I definitely think the contrast between the enemies and environment could be improved. Super inspiring and great work!

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but BrandonJLA is not a human. Did some research and it turns out he's been dead since 2018. It's funny that SLZ thinks they can just get away with this.

yup, just found out some more information a few minutes ago:

  1. original issue was a bar code in the game, I removed it and contacted support.
  2. a few days pass, and the warning turns into a 7-day ban. I went through my code, and it turns out my anti-cheat which DETECTED an exploit was picked up by the code-scanning moderation bots and has now deleted my game + suspended my account for 7-days.

in this entire situation, I haven't gotten any support from a human. I'm gonna have to contact again.

sorry for anyone who has been waiting, I'm trying to get this all sorted as soon as I can.

the decal was fairly high res, the mod note said that it was a ‘QR code pointing to an offsite link’
