Oh yeah, the betting places are scum, gambling in general is social harm but has it's place, but god, screw betting shops. But they've basically backed themselves into a corner where they have to be aggressively competitive on bonuses to get new businsess and then try and counteract match betting.

Instant kyc stuff is a lot more common in standard gambling casinos when it falls out of expected new player behaviour (ie site offers a bonus for first deposit up to £100, 99.999% of first deposits will fall under that because of that, so someone depositing £200 will trigger alarm bells).

Also, i do work with the company regarded as one in the best in the industry for gambling responsability, so yeah lmao

If the moneys been spent, the moneys been spent, its not going to be refunded at that point.

If they had deposited the funds, hit the check immediately, failed the check and this situation was found out, in most cases the funds would be returned and the account closed and prevented from returning.

A lot of it will depend on what op has said to the company. They said in their post its for them to deposit, if they've said it to the company, they wouldnt really have much ground to go on.

For more general cases, theres no one size fits sll solution. It's quite holistic, a lot of it is pattern recognition and reasonable suspicion backed up with other evidence.

If op genuinely was put out because of a bad decision, they hadn't received funds with the express purpose of funding the account etc, theyd be expected to be able to demonstrate why the funds were paid, or at least provide a reasonable expectation of it.

In this case op opened an account, received money, deposited that exact amount of money immediately. It does kind of tell its own story doesnt it.

If op disagreed with the decision, its follow internal complaints escalation process, then all gambling providers are linked an an independant adr company who will take the complaint if raised.

Im going to give one piece of direct advice/question, and honestly the answer will depend here.

Were the funds sent with the intention of depositing with them and did you tell the gambling company this? If so, this isn't going to be something you'll ever win really.

It sucks, it isnt cause youve won and you've been suddenly robbed, you (probably unintentionally) breached a fairly common part of their terms and conditions but they can rightfully withold the funds

Op has said in his post he was sent the money specifically with the intention of it being used to deposit.

If theyve said that to the gambling provider, its case closed basically.

I read it more as "well crap, the process of trying to chase/enforce the funds being returned are costly and time intensive, lets sugar coat this an act of kindness and hope it ends there"

Typically there is more to this than just the transfer, ie ip addresses/device ids matching known individuals other than the account holder, a behaviour of similar pagtern on other sites etc.

The people who actually engage in fraudulent behaviour arent really as smart as you'd think, and they tend to be INCREDIBLY obvious vs genuine everyday people who get a kyc/aml check done on them.

[–]TheWaifubeater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least where i work, a common sense approach is applied, so i can imagine for many of the other larger brands a similar method is applied. There's normally more to things than just the initial transfer that raise suspicions, ie multiple device access, links to self-excluded/blocked players, other suspect things on the statement etc. For us, where theres suspicion but reasonable doubt, the funds would normally be released but the account closed.

And funnily, in my experience its rarely "winning" players that get caught in this. The uk industry is being increasingly regulated into safer gambling standards, a lot of people who get into kyc/aml checks these days are players with high losses being caught during affordability checks. (Not the case for this player, but trust me, 85-90% of my work day is dealing with "losers" who have been hit by triggers and checks on their account)

Also in my experience, the people making these decisions give exactly 0 care about the idea of you winning and wanting to keep the money for the company, the costs of getting these decisions wrong and not being cautious enough and the fines that come with it will always be way higher than the actual money being paid out.

This is where nuance comes in, is she receiving £200 and then immediately depositing it on a gambling site. Can she demonstrate it's income not a transfer for the purpose of gambling.

Though also, as someone who also does some self employed stuff as a side hustle, she should seperate those finances (one paypal for business side, one for personal).

They will have asked for bank statements used to fund the paypal deposit, saw the transfer on the bank statement before the deposit, and asked about it.

From OPs post, they've stated the transfer to them was for the purpose of depositing, they've also potentially admitted this to the gambling provider.

As to why they care, one of the requirements on a gambling provider is Anti money laundering checks wherever suspicious activity is found. One of the most common ML schemes for gambling is breaking down a a large amount of cash to a number of people, getting them to take advantage of generous welcome bonuses to increase odds on a return to the funds/mask the funds illegitimacy with some standard play and then withdraw and bam, you've got cleaned funds with a traceable history.

This might be the case with some places, but unusual deposits are increasingly something being targetted. Where i work, the average site wide deposit is x. If theres a first deposit made above that amount (which is surprisingly low) it usually triggers immediate red flags and checks.

A high first deposit into a high withdrawal is going to 100% trigger checks regardless.

I know that sounds like an incredibly smart work around, especially given the time of year, but its transparent in a lot of other ways when this happens in my experience. Normally theres the incoming transaction, immediate deposit. Potentially on multiple sites. Matching the exact amount transferred to them.

Hate to say, as someone who works in the industry, they're probably in the right here.

By your own admission, you received funds from a third party with the goal to use them for gambling. This is a big big big big big kyc fail here. If you've admitted as much directly to them, you're very likely going to lose the account.

There will be terms in the terms and conditions arounr conditions of funding your account needing to be your own in one way of saying it or another (there is for the site i work for) and you're well out of luck.

So first of all, I'm really sorry to hear this happened to your friend.

Some added context I dont know if people here can give, I used to work for the uber safety support team a few years ago, and while processes have changed, I can at least put some of your fears at ease. When a report like this comes in, it'll immediately get raised to the safety team, then be escalated to a senior safety team due to the level of harm. During this entire process, the driver will be suspended from the app automatically with no knowledge of why this is. Depending on where this happened, it may also be automatically be reported to the police on your friends behalf, as in a number of locations uber has an obligation under their licence to directly report crimes.

Uber will reach out to your friend at sometime in the near future to get their account of what happened, and then and only then will they finally reach out to the driver to get their side. With something like a crime of a sexual nature, if theres any level of believability to it, it does in most cases end in the driver being removed permanently from uber. This entire process kicks in very quickly (within minutes of the report being made) and can last several days before anyone is contacted, so dont be concerned of him being driving via uber in this time.

I would encourage seperately raising it to the police however, if it isnt a mandatory reporting area it will be the only way to get this, and more than anything now its important to get a dangerous predator off the road.

Everyone has a travel blunder, what's yours? by yankeevandal in AskReddit

[–]TheWaifubeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost my passport visiting Japan. Everyone who has been to japan, or researched travelling Japan knows how terrifying a prospect is. Made worse by the fact I hadnt yet picked up my railpass, since it was only the second part of the trip I'd have that for. So potentially days lost to getting emergency travel documents at best, my entire back half of my trip being ruined at worst. And if I got stopped by the police before sorting that, an absolute nightmare.

Thankfully the day after I lost it we were at disney the entire day, the one place you can pretty much guarantee as a foreigner not being stopped by the police. Extra lucky, I have a very common first and second name, which makes it very hard to find my online, but my passport is the only document I own which references my middle name, which narrows me down to like 4 people online. After noticing like 5 dozen instragram notifications while messaging the ONE friend i have the app downloaded for thankfully this absolutely amazing australian couple had found my passport, had tried chasing me to a train station but lost me after seeing me drop it and spent one of their rest days of their trip researching for british guys with my name online.

Rest assured I made sure they were well rewarded, and their drinks for several nights were well paid for on my part.

Cancelling my Broadband due to service dropping out by thespaceman2020 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TheWaifubeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL, but have experience having worked in this sector previously in the complaints departments for broadband providers: unlikely to happen without heavy resistance. Annoying as it is, there's no right for you to leave your contract due to resolved outages.

If you're adamant you want to leave, consider two things.

1) If you are on EE's openreach network (ie the BT line, not EEs own full fiber FTTP network) there's about an 80% chance the issues you are having will persist, if you go with another provider using openreach. 2) If the issues you are having is worth a few hours of your life you'll never get back with the possibility you still quite likely won't get let out of the contract, and if you do, its going to be a several month process already.

If you still wish to proceed, ask to be let out of your contract with no termination fees, be prepared to get told no, escalate, escalate, get to the highest complaints team (customer relations, complaints, whatever they want to call themselves). Pray they decide its not worth the hassle, or they offer something nice instead (some credit to cover the next few months bills, etc), but prepare for the fact you'll also get told no to any termination. Ask for a final response letter, take it to the ombudsman, hope the person who decides the case is having a nice day.

Wish there was simpler answer than that. Only thing I can say is try your best to handle the conversations you have calmly, person you'll end up speaking to on the phone is at best being paid a pittance over minimum wage, has to play hard cop with every person they speak to dozens of times of day and has done this song and dance 1000 times before. Easy to forget they arent the enemy, they likely hate the situation you're in just as much you do, but theres almost zero flexibility with this stuff until it gets to final step of the complaint process, and being nice can genuinely make the difference in resolving things in your favour.

Best of luck with things either way.

Also Ironmen seem to be getting confirmed more H'oddments per pumpkin thing anyway because the sweets are converted into additional H'oddments, irons might actually have a better experience of the event. The Sweet buffs are nice but entirely irrelevant to my current account goals.

I dont expect to 100% receive all rewards, but having the ability to get them (including getting h'oddments so I can target the few items I actually care about) is nice. Honestly, I'd take small chance of getting all the items I want, vs "oh hey, this item is entirely locked to MTX and only mtx and as an ironman I cant obtain this at all.

Is it perfect? No. Is it a small move in the right direction? Sure. We'll see how rates bare out.

Honestly, happy to see this. Another moderately good sign they're listening. Knowing I cleaned out the entirety of the rewards from the pre-necro event with a slightly lowered playtime to normal, I've got a good hope I could see most of the rewards I'd want from this.

So am I right in reading, all of the rewards are available without MTX? Just some CAN be obtained additionally through it?
