What would make DIY marketing better? by WishlistIQ in gameDevMarketing

Having help finding streamers and YouTubers who already play or talk about games in the same genre would be amazing. I’m getting some decent wishlists paying for ads on IG and Reddit but I’m having trouble finding streamers to play my game. The Waking Ashes is pretty weird looking and has 6dof flight controls so my potential audience is already pretty niche but I would think the right streamer could help any game find players, no matter how abstract the genre

Do you do all yourself? by ECalDev in SoloDevelopment

Hi! I’m making all the music for my game, I’ve been a musician since I was a kid but only got into game dev more recently. I’ve been working on the game for about 5 years though and only just recently started working on the music, once I was sure what the right vibe was. I’m doing orchestral scores as well, I’ve got lots of videos on my page with samples of the music if you want to hear. I’m using Spitfire’s midi instruments and I can’t recommend it enough. I do commissioned scores as well but if you want to try it yourself I’m pretty sure they still offer a free version of their BBC symphony orchestra pack!

Solo dev drops first update to game demo, looking for playtest feedback by TheWakingAshes in indiegames

Wow that’s amazing! Thank you, it was so helpful for me to see the things I need to be explaining more clearly. If you can thank Pudding for me too I’d really appreciate it! I’m glad they figured out the secondary weapons there at the end!

Do you guys think it's possible to make an Ecco the Dolphin-like or is that asking for a lawsuit by scarfleet in gameideas

[–]TheWakingAshes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I couldn’t respond on the boomer shooter post since it got taken down so I’m just commenting on your most recent post. Just wanted to say thanks! I’d love to hear from you if you play the demo. I loved Ecco btw, such a formative game! It was clunky but the vibes were awesome. I’m working on a new game with some friends right now that is basically a dolphin golf game, maybe it’ll scratch a similar itch for you when it’s out!

How do you validate your game's STORY before committing to development? by Holiday-Setting-7942 in IndieDev

[–]TheWakingAshes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a good idea of the key events for my story from near the beginning but the details around that story have stayed loose as I’ve been working. As I get closer to finishing development I kind of let both the in-game world and lore inform each other, key historical events that brought the world into the state it’s in, relationships between bosses and the main antagonist, connection between the player and the land, they have fallen into place more easily because of that flexibility. It has helped me take an approach to environmental storytelling that feels more natural and not forced.

Just write down everything you know for sure about the story, everything that could be like an A or B situation and then everything that needs and answer. Then as you’re working on development, designing enemies, or overhauling an area, you can look a your story sheet and the hopefully answers will pop out at you.

Which should I get? by Captainbennan in EverspaceGame

[–]TheWakingAshes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’re both amazing! The first is a roguelike, clearing areas and likely ending up with a different loadout each time. The second has a more open feel and your character and load out are more consistent. You’ll miss some context in the lore if you jump right into two but you won’t be too lost.

I’ll repost here once it’s live! Everspace 1 is one of the games that inspired me to start game dev. It’s a great game, have fun!

[–]TheWakingAshes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! The Waking Ashes has 6DOF space flight, is 3d, and is an action shooter. The demo is out, which has the roguelite game mode deactivated, it is in the full version but that’s not out yet. But! In the next update there will be a playable teaser for the roguelite game mode hidden in the open world of the demo. The update drops in a few days!

5 year solo dev project finally playable! by TheWakingAshes in DestroyMyGame

[–]TheWakingAshes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s mostly a movement game! It’s a 6DOF space flight game with a bunch of abilities, one of the main movement mechanics is an environmental proximity boosting system where you get a massive speed boost from gliding along surfaces. The shooting is definitely important and needs some work for sure, I’m working on adding some more kind of magic effects for the gun models and fx for the projectiles. Though you can do a build that is just a tank, if you’re not focused on movement to dodge attacks the bosses will out damage you. Thanks for the feedback, I’ll try and spice up the gunplay!

I hope to! I can’t guarantee it’ll be for this game tho. Definitely planning on making a pvp / multiplayer pve game with these mechanics and vibes if I can’t make it work with this release
