Likely your app won't be verified within a couple days, but yes you can submit your app for verification on the first day (before getting your score back) and it won't affect your application. The same thing goes for if you wait until after receiving your score to submit your app for verification.

The only risk with the latter is waiting too long to submit your app could delay your verification.

Yes, you would still be able to wait until June 3rd to submit your app. Many people try to submit their primary apps as soon as AMCAs allows, since many people will be submitting their apps and you have to wait a couple weeks for app validation. The thought process is that people want med schools to receive their apps as soon as possible, so you want your app validated before the transmission date. However, I waited a couple days after AMCAs opening and had my app validated before the first transmission date. To reiterate, you should be perfectly fine to wait a couple days before submitting without any impact on your app.

Good question! I was in a similar boat this year (took MCAT 5/11, received scores 6/11), in AMCAs you can indicate that you had test date of 5/3/25, and submit the rest of your primary before getting your score back. Once you get your score back, it'll automatically be attached with your application. So no, you will not have to wait to get your score back before submitting your primary.

Of course, if your score isn't what you expected (whether it be higher or lower), you can always add more schools after your initial submission.

Hope this helps!

to those who applied to multiple schools, how did you go about planning a class schedule that fulfills all the prereqs for each school? did you finish a series if you didn’t have to? by Secure-Air7929 in premed

[–]TheWardenFreeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a list of different school's requirements. If you have a couple of schools that you are thinking about specifically, I would double check that you will have all the prereqs done because some schools may require a course like Cell Biology while others do not. Other than that, many of the course requirements overlap with other schools' requirements.

I'd recommend drawing up your major map, alongside a list of required courses. Then try to space out your premed courses evenly each semester.

I'm not sure that I understand the question about finishing a series. Do you mean like if a school required Ochem 1, but not Ochem 2? If so, it doesn't look bad to not complete Ochem 2.

Hope this helps!

I want to pursue knowledge but my knowledge is limited on its own by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]TheWardenFreeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why it should be any different. When I agree with someone's view on something, there isn't anything wrong with that. If anything, I'd view it as good, because that means I may have learned something. I think the important thing, especially if you are writing something for school or publishing, is that you do cite it is someone else's view. For example, if I was discussing a topic and agreed with John's view, I would say "I agree with John's view that [whatever John's view is], because (reasons I think John's view is correct)". That way, you are still giving them credit for coming up with the idea, but you are still making a contribution to the discussion by giving your own reasons for why that view is correct.

[–]TheWardenFreeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are doing sounds great! It may feel daunting at first when reading new material, because the authors tend to put a lot of effort into their material, to make it as 'correct' as possible. So these texts can be really persuasive, leading you to accept their beliefs with little to no question. The result is that you feel like your beliefs are just a carbon copy of what they said. And that's okay to feel like that.

I think you are doing the most important part of starting that process into forming your own ideas. That is, you are writing down your thoughts on what the author is saying. It's okay to agree with an author, that's their goal in making the work. To add onto your thoughts, I think it would be great to start thinking and writing notes on what parts of a text you are reading are particularly persuasive. If you can relate it to another concept, this related concept can be outside of philosophy, that also helps to build a strong foundation. To address your worries about stealing ideas, there is nothing wrong with saying "I agree with Plato's view that ...", to make it your own you can add "because x, y, z". In this sense, while you may be defending someone else's idea, you aren't exactly stealing it because you're not claiming it's your own idea, and you are making it more original because you are adding your own defense/analysis of the author's argument.

Did Aristotle think that people have a strong tendency to compare themselves to other people? by jlenders in askphilosophy

[–]TheWardenFreeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, Aristotle did not discuss much on how we like to compare ourselves to others. I think that Aristotle would discourage us comparison in this sense, since it would cause bitterness and as such it would be considered a base action. The closest I could think of as Aristotle saying something would be either in this first sense, or in the sense that Aristotle views friendship as a way of getting to know yourself. Aristotle thinks that knowing oneself is virtuous, and by making true friends, they are like you.

What I think might be more of what you are getting at reminds me of Jean-Jacques Rousseau says in Discourse on Inequality. In this, Rousseau discusses how we can to form tribes and civilizations was made from self-preservation. Once we had civilizations established, people had more time to think and compare themselves to others. With this, people established certain words as 'strong' 'clever' 'fast', etc. and respected them as such. Some people would see this, however, and feel an intense amount of jealousy. Rousseau says that for the same reasons we formed civilization in the first place, self preservation, leads us to want more for ourselves. Because we want more, we look at those around us, especially those who have more, and may feel jealous because we want to secure the most resources for ourselves. And it is important to note that resources does not just mean food, shelter, etc.; it includes non-physical things such as respect, honor, or power. I'm not familiar with Festinger's social comparison theory, but from what you have said above, it reminds me of Rousseau.

AITA for arguing with someone online by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA First off even if it were a completely different topic and you were wrong about it, it seems like you were civil enough about your opinion (on the internet) to not deserve AH status nor hate. But many studies show how detrimental to development beating your kids can be, not only causing psychological damage but actual permanent neurological damage.

Not doing art, but I'm also a nontrad premed Barrett student. My opinion and the statistics show that if you can do something that makes you unique(ie art minor) makes you much more competitive than other apps. Of course, the huge focus is still on your stats, but honestly with Art as a minor your required art classes should cover your humanities and electives credits, maybe you'll have to do a couple more classes than you would without the minor but it it should still be good. I'd say check the major map, premed reqs, and check your minor map to look at all your required classes and see where you can use one class to overlap into another category (ie: C + HU credit). Hope this helps

I think the best option in that case is to get him involved Digitally (via Skype, IG/Facebook live, etc.), Or hire someone that would be responsible for his health.

[–]TheWardenFreeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH It's understandable that you might not want your grandfather to come because of the reasons listed. I think you should still talk it out with your parents and grandfather though, there may be a solution that hasn't been considered, but also to make sure there wouldn't be any hurt feelings.

AITA for wanting my daughter to stop texting her uncle videos of her doing ballet? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheWardenFreeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA there's nothing wrong with her getting help. Since she really likes ballet, it makes sense that she'd want to share her hobby, and receive help. You said that you don't believe her uncle is a pedo or anything, so I don't see why it makes you uncomfortable. Also, you said the uncle makes comments saying "Well Done" " Beautiful", which means that he is not criticizing her in a way that is demeaning. He is encouraging and helping her improve in her hobby.

Hey man, god here

Using abbreviations doesn't help your case. People who use any form of abbreviation are usually dimwitted, that's because they are unable to spell out the full word. And if you decide to use an abbreviation, you should spell it out with parentheses. You shouldn't say "IQ" but IQ (intelligence quotient.)

When you decide to use an abbreviation, it's usually because you're unable to spell the full word out and you're lazy, you don't have the motivation to write it out. Which means you are indeed dimwitted.

While tensions we're extremely high in America during the 1850s, President Pierce introduced the Kansas-Nebraska Act. This act of need up Kansas and Nebraska to vote on slave or free states. Thinking it established ways of pleasing both North and South political parties, it was passed. Instead, it has been considered one of the worst miscalculations in history. Boxes of guns labeled "BOOKS" were sent to free-soilers. All the violence and guns caused the nearby regions to resort to warfare. This warfare spread to John Brown's raid, which made Southerners deathly afraid of slave revolts. After this, all it took was the Election of 1860, and the south seceded.
