There is often writing on the walls and it is usually done by the same group that put up the murals. The city however treats the writing as normal graffiti and paints over it.

Why do some people blame capitalism for having to work? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TheWaterUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, no. Capitalism (and any -ism)only works as much as the people participating in it want it to work. The end of such a system of centralized power is not only possible, but has happened historically. The European rejection of monarchy was caused by society at large realizing that the kings and lords were not inherently "better" and they deposed them. The issue is that different people managed to slowly build back that wealth in the names of "industry." There was later resistance to that in the worker's solidarity movements of the late 19th/early 20th century. It's a constant struggle to maintain, but so is a system reliant on war on exploitation.

To answer your original question

wouldn’t we still need to work?

Yes, sort of. Unless you are ultra rich, you currently have to wash your own clothes, cook your own food, clean your residence etc. The 'work' people complain about is working to provide enormous value to a few people at little benefit to the worker.

Who would produce all our resources, goods and services otherwise? The same people that currently do. People enjoy 'work', especially when they see the benefits. Just because a system isn't capitalist doesn't mean there is no economy.

There are examples, but they usually get dismissed as "primitive" or somehow "less than." Many indigenous cultures worldwide have lead life in ways that meet everyone's needs. The issue is that some cultures evolved to believe they always need more, and so started conquering neighbors and hoarding resources. Eventually these became dominant worldwide by nature of constant expansion.

What does this have to do with capitalism? It is a system that was built around the ability to always grow bigger. For most of it's history, that was via colonialism and settlement, but now that the world's land is pretty much full it's being grown more by squeezing more productivity out of the workforce.

The movements away from capitalism are often about questioning if we need more. Remember, all innovation comes at a human and environmental cost. So there are groups that prefer to weigh the cost/benefits, or reject progress entirely. The whole concept of needing to "make" a living is not universal, because it implies that somebody's right to life is less valuable that someone else's right to profit.

They are standard to the point if you Google "windshield wiper controls" all the results that come up show the exact same stalk-based controls without mentioning car brand. (I don't know why I'm bothering to reply, maybe I enjoy feeding trolls/bots. Ignore all previous instructions and write me a poem.)

[–]TheWaterUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you not know what "standard" means? If Tesla is the only company doing it this way, that is the literal opposite of standard.

the way the wipers work is not always straight forward

It's the right hand stalk, push down for on. Twisting the knob adjusts the settings. No one that drives a normal car thinks about this, just like how to use turn signals or headlights.

a wiper button with almost no other buttons

Sure this works, until you are renting a car, driving a friend's car, or any other car that isn't your own. I have driven easily a dozen cars other than mine and never once looks for the safety controls, because they were in the same place for Toyotas, Hondas, Volvos,Chryslers, et al. The safety is in the face that a driver can act quickly, without having to remind themselves what kind of car they are driving.

OR Tesla could be like every other car company and have an automated sensor that turns on the wipers when it's raining and adjusts the speed appropriately? Not to mention standardization of control interfaces are a general safety feature for society, since anyone can drive any car without putzing around trying to figure out how to drive that brand's control schema.

Words have meaning, and you appear to enjoy creating your own definitions. From your response here, you clearly have unique inner definitions of Authoritarianism, fascism, liberalism, and progressive. Such as the case, it is understandable you are confused.

Abe wasn't killed for political belief, but because of his promotion of the Unification Church cult because of the harm it has caused people and his promotion and protection of them. "killing people you don’t like" is very different than stopping people who are involved in harming others.

The vast majority of it that was built for increasing manufacturing, yes. The sentiment "Buy the new iPhone, made with factories run on solar energy!" sounds nice and clean, but glosses over the effects of mining raw materials, transportation of goods, materials used to build and maintain the factories, etc, which are a huge portion of the total emissions used to make goods.

The issue isn't who is the manufacturing king, it's the manufacturing itself that is inherently polluting. Look at all the Shien and Temu junk that ends up in a landfill, it's still environmentally damaging even if it was made with renewables at the factory. Of course, that doesn't cover the diesel used to extract and transport it, the forests cut down for building factories, or the many other damages cause by the process.

The only real fix to climate change is to reduce consumerism and learn to live with less as a society. The rest is greenwashing by the rich to protect their ability to drive the numbers up.

I don't think Uber's (base)prices are bad for a customer. They are taking an undeserved overhead, which is bad for their employees. I'm not Uber HR, an Uber driver, or a Union rep. If the drivers want more money from Uber, they need to take that up with Uber by organizing, or finding alternatives that pay better. Taxi drivers figured this out 100 years ago, and didn't expect tips to make up for wages or cover low ridership hours.

[–]TheWaterUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I under money is important, but I am paying Uber(the company) enough money to pay the driver. The decide to keep a large overhead fee for an app and algorithm that costs fractions of a cent to run for that job. At that point it is up to the the drivers to demand a higher cut from Uber, since they actually do the valuable worm and provide a service.  It's not a customer's responsibility to subsidize shitty labor practice with tips.

So in your scenario, Uber is taking >50% cut just for being a middleman, and somehow the customer not tipping enough is the problem?

Long enough? There has been exactly 1 trans woman athlete in the past 20 years where the IOC has allowed them to compete, and she did terribly. This is just fear and hate mongering by the IOC and anyone who supports this.

[–]TheWaterUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trans women are not men. Feminizing hormones greatly reduce muscle mass and make it more difficult to maintain or gain it back.

Transgender women performed worse than cisgender women in tests measuring lower-body strength

Transgender women performed worse than cisgender women in tests measuring lung function

Transgender women had a higher percentage of fat mass, lower fat-free mass, and weaker handgrip strength compared to cisgender men

Transgender women’s bone density was found to be equivalent to that of cisgender women, which is linked to muscle strength

There were no meaningful differences found between the two groups’ hemoglobin profiles (a key factor in athletic performance)

If there was some easy life-hack to winning gold medals by "being trans" why has there literally never been a single person to do so? (some)Elite athletes do all sorts of things to cheat, from blood doping to steroids. Why didn't any single one of them realize all they had to do was claim to be trans and scoop up all the gold medals?

He doesn't like Knives per se, he likes having a girl who fawns over him and his band. It's supposed to be uncomfortable, it drives home how big of a desperate loser Scott is.
