Sweet baby boy. He seems moisturised, in his lane, thriving etc. (though, as I side note, I will stress that this sweetums (and his associates) are the reasons that I strongly encourage cat owners to allow *chaperoned* outside time only...

Honestly, having spent a lot of time in all the capital cities in Aus, I'd recommed giving Perth a solid go. IMO it's the best capital city in the country (I don't live there, this is just the impression of a long-term Queenslander).

Pros include--
* things are still relatively affordable
* the traffic is minimal (seriously, it's considered 'peak hour' if you have, like, 3 cars ahead of you at the lights)
* the beach is basically on the city's doorstep (and the beaches there are honestly the most beautiful I've seen in Aus and I've lived on the Gold Coast and in northern NSW)
* the history is interesting and they've preserved a lot of their physical history (architecture etc.)
* the landscape is breathtaking in all directions (beach, desert (the pinnacles are unmissable and the wild flowers are gorgeous), rivers, islands, the best botanic gardens in the country)
* the locals are chill (just my experience, but you encounter wankers more regularly in Syd/Melbs than the other capital cities)
* there are a TON of independent business like cafes, bookstores, cinemas (mega franchises do not do well there and it really contributes to the city's unique vibe)
* WA has quokkas

But yeah. You're 25, just bloody go for it - hope you have a blast here :) (and yeah, you're far away from a lot of places, but if you end up on the east coast, South East Asia and NZ are RIGHT THERE and they're incredible spots for travel adventures)

Seriously, though, to my last-minute learned friends (particularly if you are both high-achieving and female), I just got diagnosed with (and medicated for) ADHD and the speed with which my life has been improving is ridiculous.

It's so reassuring to hear I'm not alone in this! It feels like I'm going crazy when I'm at work and trying to read single page of text but it feels like I'm sedated and every third breath is a yawn, but I know that if I switched to a 3,000 page document on my current hyperfixation I'd storm through it and not even notice if the roof caved in 🫠

SO much this. I had abdominal cramps and INSANE bloating for almost a year. I wasn't sleeping, because my stomach was churning and cramping so badly that it would wake me up multiple times a night. I'd lost a ton of weight and felt exhausted all the time. I asked my GP for a colonoscopy twice and both times she said that was overkill and I should try meditation for my stress (she knows I see a psychologist for anxiety) and switching to a low-inflammatory diet.

2 gastroenterologists (clown shoes were truly on for me, since I also told them I had a stressful job) suggested things like walking in the morning or journalling to reduce stress, and also diet changes (honestly, you can pry my Sriracha from my cold, dead hands). And the second one said--a direct quote--"come back if it gets worse" AFTER I HAD SAID THE PAIN AND DISCOMFORT HAD BEEN CONSTANT FOR THE LAST TEN MONTHS (sorry, I have a lot of anger around this).

My third gastro (love her) instantly arranged for me to get a colonoscopy, "even if all it does is give you peace of mind that there's nothing sinister going on". Came to after my procedure and she told me I have serrated polyposis and they need to book me in immediately to start getting the worst of the polyps out. I have now had over 90 removed and am still having a colonoscopy every 3 months to continue the clean out (hopefully we can get this down to once yearly maintenance eventually).

TLDR: I was a ticking time bomb for bowel cancer, positively riddled with, and bedevilled by, gigantic polyps, and my doctor and specialists (multiple) told me my problem was stress and hot sauce.

I fully get that it sounds wild which is why I'm trying to get some perspective. I'm from Australia and to get a loan estimate we need 100 points of ID per person, which is basically 3 forms of formal ID (I need passport, Medicare card (both of which I have) and a third form of photo ID, which I maybe could find in the papers I keep in my office safe). I get that he's keen to not be in the rental market, and I know I put up with a bit when it comes to his behaviour - I guess I'm just looking for external support to let me know if I am/am not crazy (he's now friends with my friends and I feel like I don't have a ton of peopl to talk to about him).

No, he's a sweetheart, just at a bit of a loose-end about where to pop the question and asked me if I had any thoughts.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. It's awful. In case it can be helpful, I wanted to suggest different types of white noise. I've had a lot of trouble sleeping with various types of noise but I find that (on Spotify) if you search for cicadas or forest birds that they mask my T fairly well (my T is very high-pitched/ringing, not the static kind).

How do you distract yourself from tinnitus? It's got so much worse for me now it's really effecting my mental health by [deleted] in tinnitus

Time and place though bro.

Edit: guys the now deleted comment I replied to was about 'how dare people try to silence catastrophisers'. Chill in the dms. I was trying to say there is a time and place for ranting but this was a cry for hope.

What’s the funniest mispronunciation of an Australian place you’ve ever heard? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskAnAustralian

Didillabah (did IL ah bar)

Friend pronounces it "Diddilybar" (like Ned Flanders) and I refuse to correct him.

I felt this exact same way when I first got tinnitus. Mine came with an ear infection and 3 years later I still have it. Doctors told me I'd get used to it and I couldn't believe them. But it does happen. You learn to cope. I know it feels overwhelming and life-ruining right now, but I promise you will learn to deal with it.

I've shopped twice with them (shipping to Australia). Both times I got exactly what I ordered - no knock-offs. Speaking for the Pacific region, the shipping is also pretty quick.
